Teacher's perspective
I can't speak for other teachers, but here are things from my perspective:
I taught 7th, 9th, and 11th grade for about 5 years. 7th grade World History, 9th grade Geography, and 11th grade American History.
You get 25 - 30 students per class, most of who don't want to be there. You get a kid one-on-one and he's fine, but put him in there with his peers and he's going to cause trouble. He feels he's safe because he's got the #'s on his side. Many students would not cause trouble or make trouble if it weren't for the attention they get from their peers for their disturbance.
You try to get parents involved in the process. Sometimes it works, but for the most part their attitude is "you're the professional - just deal with it" or "what am I supposed to do about it...he/she won't listen to me". My favorite is when they say "My kid's not a bad kid, they just make bad decisions". No....if you're kid mouths off, gets into fights, or sell drugs on school grounds...they are bad. Take responsibility.
You have to go to teacher "enrichment" seminars that are really a waste of time. It's funny, because this is when teachers sort of behave like you teenagers. We don't want to be there, but the school makes us....lol. We would rather spend time with friends & family.
It's difficult to motivate kids to learn for the enjoyment of learning. You really can't tell a kid, "hey, one day you're going to need to know this stuff" because they don't see the immediate benefit of learning it. After all, they are only 12 - 18 years old and don't have that kind of perspective yet. I've had so many young adults come back to me a couple of years after getting out of school and say, "Mr. L, if I had only listened more in school...oh I wish I could go back in time".
I'll post some positive stuff later.

I doubt passing through such experiences is helpful in life. I mean it is good to know that life is hard but being bullied can have negative effects and scars that can mark you for life.
I am glad to hear that you are doing better now.

my school horror story
I can't imagine why a teacher would treat you that way - totally unprofessional. All I can say is thank you for sharing that so others can learn what not to do.
i can tell you why...i went to a catholic school, but i'm not even christian...neither are my parents...i went because they had such a great academic curriculum...we never went to church, or anything...i'll admit, i wasn't the best student to have in religion class, and i wrote about things that aren't what "good christian children" write about...but thats no reason to fail me...i still wrote well, behaved myself...i didn't tear the religion to shreds, i did all my homework...i should have had a 4.0....but nope...i'm the devil child...

thanks...and the reason it made me better is i'm "more mature" (its what they tell me...in my opinion, i'm not) i've never been into how i dress, make up, giggle about boys all night...never did stuff like that...i wore uniforms instead of jeans, we weren't allowed to wear make-up or jewelry...so now i don't see why its so important...kids miss class to do their make up in the bathrooms, and i don't see why its sooo important that your grades should suffer...thats how it changed me...and yes, it left scars...when i see my old teacher walk towards me (like if we meet in the store, or i go back to that school) everything that could be thought of as bad runs through my head, and i get all shaky...i avoid the kids that did it, even though they have matured now enough to say they are sorry...the good side is i'm less self conscious now...i have been called every name you can think of, for the most part...it doesn't bother me anymore...i just shrug it off...so in some ways, it helped...

I also was not treated fairly at a private Protestant Christian school in Indiana. I hated Christians for years and vowed never to become one. It's easy to become defensive based on past treatment. Anyway, I later became a Christian close to my 21st birthday. It took years to get over the resentment of the way I was treated.

School in general 4 me was a daily form of torter and abuse. I was moved around alot as kid and had to start as the new kid at many different schools through out grade school and high school. I was always able to do the assignments with little difficulty and was an A student when i was able to concentrate on my work....homework was pretty much nonexistant for me , since i usually was able to either finish during the school day or pass tests by reading up on the subject in question. Tests were pretty easy I found. By the time I was in grades 6 and 7 i was having anxiety attacks due to the constant harrassing i received from students.... the thought of facing 30 plus students everyday that seemed to hate me and that was always looking 4 a way to poke at me made me very scared in general of people my age ....my peers were my enemy..every day was a battle to survive or somehow avoid being the guy people made fun of pushed into walls tried to start fights with because i had the nerve to look in their general direction. By the time i got to high school I was so afraid of the world around that I would only go out at night when the world was asleep and would only attend highschool when forced to. The teachers that I complained to over the years were no help, they always assumed it was my fault somehow. I am a very caring and person and have never intentionally harmed anyone of these people that i know of...so I was in a state of paranoia and confusion most of the time in highschool ....unble to focus on school work and missing days or leaving the school grounds part way through the day ... The teachers assumed that I was trouble and had me placed into a class for delinquent students and learning problems...this of course made my mental and emotional state worse....I was finally experiencing so much anxiety that i just stopped going to school all together at the age of 15....I am very educated on many different things and have the ability to learn and grow but even to this day I cannot be near groups of teenagers or in a school like enviroment without being put into a state of near panic. I know now the psychological reasons behind the students behaviour and i know that it wasn't anything I did... unfortunately I lost out on what was supposed to be the best years of my life and was given a daily hell untill I had a complete breakdown as a result....Kids are cruel ..simple as that...I have dealt with alot of these issues and have overcome alot of trauma and side effects of that trauma....I am now quite the expert on people and the whys and hows of human interaction, Anywase i could get into details but I feel that the effects speak 4 themselves...the measure and effect of pain is unique to the person. Anywase I have first hand experience of what multiple years of bullying and abuse can due too someone. I do not wish that kind of treatment on anyone. Do to others what you want done too you..... peace love prosperity to all

The option for me was not to draw attention to myself, teachers ask questions i keep quite, i'll pass most of my homework and test's but im not going to let other people know and rub it in (not saying that you do)
Basically i was just like a shadow
Until i hit High School
Then i got into football, now those are some good times...might play again next year

never going there...to many loop holes in the bible (no offense, and i don't want to start a religious debate)...but i don't blame the christians...i'm just quoting what they literally told me...some of my closest friends are catholics that went to school with me...however, my teacher was a staunch catholic who believed i was the devil incarnate...and treated me as such...all because of my religion...i will never get over that...forgive yes, grudges take to much energy to keep up, and she's not worth it...but forget, no...

i understand all that...but when you go to a school that has 300 people in it (about...it varies by the end of the year) it can't be that hard...i don't think we even have a class with over 20 students in it, except drama, which has 30, and she does fine will all of us...the kids just aren't motivated, but some of our teachers kinda need to make things fun again

Hmmm, how about if the Cubs win the World Series! Would that suffice? (lol)
In all seriousness, when I investigated for myself, I read this book by Josh McDowell called Evidence That Demands A Verdict. In the end, it was a matter of my will more than my intellect accepting it.

If the Cubs win i'll accept that theres a god
I was actually a christian at one point but then i began to question, the theories of evolution all proove valid points of how we evolved and blah blah blah, but i dont beleive it to its full extent cause its basically full of holes, so now im at a lost, either i can go with God, and beleive that i will most likley end up going to hell for just being me, or i can beleive in Science and when i die it will just be darkness...both options suck

I asked my math teacher a question during a test which he normally has no problem with.
He goes berserk and yells " WHAT IS THIS YOUR 10TH TIME UP HERE ? iM NOT GOING TO SPOONFEED YOU"
I reply its my 2nd time up here.
Then he threatens to send me out of the class for "talking back"
Ohh yeah and lunns I have McDowells book.
Its pretty good.

One of the things that frustrates me is how things are set up as Christianity versus science as if they are totally incompatible. They are not. But I know you don't want to turn this into an apologetics forum. I'll stick to the topic.
I hope you'll check out a website I found interesting:

Tell your teacher to force the class to listen to stupid music. I made my 9th grade Geography class listen to THE CARPENTERS once because they were getting out of control. Hardly ever had a problem with that class ever again. Word got around that the next class that gave me a hard time would have to face Vanilla Ice!

You show no mercy for students
See heres my problem with the whole Christian faith deal (Nothing against it just my point of view) They tell us that God has made laws for us (Sins) and were expected to follow them which i mostly agree upon like "You shall not kill" and among other things i will agree with, but then it goes into other stuff that i beleive mankind just cant let go
Gluttony
Greed
Vanity
Lust
Im basically stating that were all going to hell in a handbasket, but if you repent, atone, get baptized or whatever those sins shall be forgotten and its a free ticket to heaven...i dont know the whole deal with Christianty because being one myself i wasnt very religous or fanatical...
Then theres Science...The theory of evolution where we evolved from apes, willing to beleive this, only other animal group with opposable thumbs, sure, but what about way back then? we evolved from the ocean...from a tiny little fish that had a 1 in million chance to survive and yet it did...watched the video on how we evolved on that and that there was also evidence of this occuring way back then, although they couldnt find the other species that were killing us off by the millions way back in the day. To me thats where i draw the line, surving against odds of 1 to million are just plain assinile and finding no other proof besides little crap ass rock formations, that was just lame.
So as of right now theres Evolution which makes some sense but the whole ocean BS is full of holes, and then theres Christianty that makes sense too in some ways, just the whole deal of everyone going to hell just doesnt suit me very well
ya...thats all i have to say

I'm an agnostic, which means that I've come to the conclusion that it's impossible to ultimately prove or disprove god. And, additionally, that we're best served staying the hell away from trying to divine the nature of god.
If a being that actually created the universe exists, whether within or without this universe, I think it must be completely beyond human understanding. For most religious people this boils down to "god works in mysterious ways", but they still claim to know exactly what he wants people to do.
The bible, the torah, the quran, the vedas, they're all just texts written by humans who lived a long time ago and tried to make sense of the world. An understandable effort and there're some good things in the stories they wrote, too, but we don't need them to make sense of the world
As long as it's possible to make do without any supernatural interference we should do so, laws, ethics, knowledge about the world and its origins all don't require a god, so why not leave out speculations in those fields?
No matter how much we find out, it still won't disprove god.
The arguments along the lines "if god is omnibenevolent, why does he allow so much evil and suffering to exist", "if god is omniscient, free will is impossible", "if god can do anything, why can't he ..." only show that a certain idea of god that has developed isn't logically feasible.
On the other hand, arguments like "life is too complex to have evolved by chance" are inherently flawed and mainly aim to attack the perceived threat of Darwins theory of evolution. Evolution doesn't happen by chance I think it was Jesse, Bad Boy who made a few posts about evolution and how it's actually supposed to work some time ago also citing examples of species that have evolved only in the last few years, unfortunately I couldn't find it again. If you feel like it you can look through the older threads, starting from page 4 onward. I don't know exactly what video you're referring to, but I think I can imagine what it was like. They're good to give a 12 year old a general idea of how evolution can have lead to humans, but that's all they're useful for IMO.
