Well, I'd start off with looking in the Announcements for some major changes to help you get caught up. If you really want to get back into the site, I suggest buying premium membership, making some friends, maybe join/create a tournament or two. It can be a really positive experience if you make it to be so. I hope this has helped, good luck!

Hmmmm, I'm in the same position.
Is the site still as active as when I stopped in 2006?
Looked on 'join a game' but looks like it could be a while before most begin.

Well
1. There are lots of addon's if you have firefox and greasemonkey. A lot of people use "bob".
2. There are speed games. Many people play freestyle speed, for this you would want to get the click-able maps addon, but it will still take a while to get fast at it. Many people have mastered this and will take your points for a while as you learn.
3. Sequential speed games are fun, and you don't have to worry about people "deadbeating" rt's anymore, in fact the words deadbeat and rt aren't even used very much anymore.
4. There are a ton of complex maps. There are many where territs cannot always attack adjacent territs, or some territs can attack territs on the other side of the board. Some can bombard (kill an make into neutral 1's) others. Waterloo, Battle for Iraq, and so on.
5. There are many maps where you have a castle or something of that sort and you only start with 1 or 2 territories, many have troops auto deployed on those castles, and have very odd bonus structures. Aor1-3 fuedal, etc.
6. As for the forums, there seem to be a bunch of rules these days and the mods kind of particular about them. You may get a warning for posting the wrong thing and so on.
7. There's a bunch of other stuff, assasin games, medals, etc, you'll find out about all of that as you go along.

Re: Just started playing again
Well, started four games and three of them are active already, a great surprise
Think I've got quite a bit to learn. I was a Premium member at one point. I'll see how I get on and decide whether to go for that again since I really did enjoy the speed games.
