ah come on, all us mapmakers are one big family. It's just some family is closer than others :) You gotta admit though - that classic massive "world" map is just freaking killer.

MagCom looks pretty, but its pretty boring. I couldn't find any open games on the classic map. The game finder is a disaster. Most of the tabs are just place holders. It's like the Risk version of Gwyneth Paltrow's GOOP site.

Plus my Twitter feed is much more awesome.

The look of the site is very nice. They also have thought out things quite a bit. Many of the things are an improvement over CC. I like the fact that you do not have to download an add-on like BOB to have map inspect and clickible maps. I also like the fact that they do not have the legends on the map, but are readily available with the click of he mouse.

I think that the only area that CC has them dominated, is the number of members. and number of maps. But they are young and still in beta. So, I think that they have nowhere to go, but up.

I recently joined MajCom as well, I find it to be kind of boring. I joined about 3 or 4 days ago, and I pretty quickly got into 4 games, but I have got to take 1 turn so far. There doesn't seem to be enough people. I admit, this can all be fixed by more people joining, but for now it seems like a shoddy imitation of CC. I do like the maps, but they do need more variety. I guess that will come with time. I don't know, I guess it's an ok site. But for now, I like it here better.

Are you aware that the top map makers on ConquerClub, who have produced most of CC's awesome maps, have all gone to MajorCommand. I think you are over-valuing quantity over quality. Seriously,

This is what ConquerClub is turning out now.

That map is fun as hell. I hope you are not overvaluing pretty pictures over functionality.

Honestly after playing this map, It made my decision to leave even harder.

Knocking CC is a very unwise thing to do. Granted my photoshopping abilities are limited to the complexity of my avatar there, but there is no knocking the creativity of the many different maps of CC. The different modes of play, ideas are absolutely staggering, bordering on inspiring, and while Im sure many could have a facelift, or perhaps have a more realistic look, it is the play on them that is important. The strategy is all in the head, and the rest is just window dressing, and when there are over 100 maps, its not as easy to make an original one.

Trying to discredit CC for the hard work theyve done here is a really bad idea I think. Seriously.

As a successful graphic designer of many years who is quite knowledgeable in the field of user experience and user interfaces, it is my professional opinion that this map sucks ballz. I would list the many egregious violations of all things aethetic, however I am afraid my monitor might run out of ink. If this map were quenched in even 10% of its current form it would signify that the CC foundry is nothing more than a farting ground from over-encouraged noobs to fumble their way through pirated software in an attempt to depict our closest celestial bodies as visual crack whores slumming the starscape.

p.s. a bird pooped on your moon.

Again I suspect you miss the forest for the trees. The forest is the gameplay and strategy and many alternatives for a map, and the trees are what it looks like. This isnt WOW where we even need incredible graphics. This is a game of strategy, and id just assume play on a black and white map, that had great game play and many options for different strategies, especially on fog as does this one. I may be alone in this thought, but the maps have nothing to do with the game, and my guess is youre better at photoshopping than actually playing the game, so I guess you need pretty pictures to look at while your randomly hitting buttons. The serious players however, may feel otherwise.

But I agree, perhaps the graphics should be better for those unable to fully grasp the game. I suppose the crack whores deserve something too, if they cant figure out the game itself.

Fitz, I am a graphic designer, knocking a maps aesthetics is primarily what I do. If you knew me around the foundry, its pretty much all I did. I rarely made comments to a maps gameplay as that was best suited to someone else. So I only really speak to what I feel comfortable knowing. At the end of the day, its all about the gameplay, but at the beginning of the day, its about how it looks. It hard to get people to the end of the day when they need to choke down a plateful of visual turds. Beyond mere prettiness, there is other aspects of design, like flow, organization, and feel. All of which I touch on when I am knocking a map. There are maps with great graphics but poor design, like Napoleonic Europe. So the aesthetics are not really as low minded as you make it out to be. Apple's success doesn't solely reside with their functionality. The design plays a big part in the success equation. I always shoot for both in maps and suggest others do as well.

I wasn't discrediting CC here. Believe me, I've been inside, outside and all over the problems of the map making community here. I have put in hundreds of hours improving this joint, and sent out too many unheeded "Iceberg" warnings. I'm not the captain here, so excuse me if I prefer not to go down with the ship.
