I'm with natty and pork: 4.6 looks very good. I would suggest that the regions (territories) that give their names to the zones (continents) could have something to emphasize them on the map. A larger or bolder version of the font could work well. See the Macedonia map for comparison. Also, is there any point to the "BMB" abbreviation? It does not appear on the map, except in the legend.

Also, have you considered my suggestion about the flags? I think it would fit the map style, and give it a more real feeling...

Cyprus - v5

Post by thenobodies80 »

Version 5

[bigimg]http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/3/21/2373685/Cyprus/cyprus%20v5.png[/bigimg]

- Ton of minor changes
- Added a temple in the right part (it's a cyprus archaeological site)

I tried it but it looks bad. I think that bonuses are easy to find on the map (also for colorblind people), so i prefer to leave as it is.

Yes ;)

Tried a first attempt with flag similar to the ones you have on your lunar map, result bad!
A second attempt with something like this in mind, but being too small it looks everything, but not a british flag...
i was going to try a final third attempt, but it's late so i'll continue tomorrow, after a good sleep. ;)

I worry a bit about the Kyrenia bonus. Can you put yellow troop numbers on it just for testing?

Thank you natty :)
A test with your flag (i've added some red to match the UK flag)

Old flags or new flags?

edit: Yellow troops on kyrenia

Hmm... looks nice but maybe a bit too small... can you make them maybe 2 pixels larger? the lower part of the flag seems to get a bit jumbled at that size :-k

... Here's one shrunk with a super sampling algorithm:

another one, 10 pixels smaller

...and here's one with a shadow:

Looks better... however I would advocate adding a shadow, like in this one -> Image

ps. the yellow numbers are fine, my worry was unfounded. :)

Nifty flags, natty, but how did you end up with the old Union Flag that does not include the cross of St. Patrick for Ireland?

If the flags are going to be so small, it might be better to just make them flat. Or maybe you guys could brainstorm, and come up with something besides flags, to denote Bases.

That last one is pretty neat: some depth without too much distortion.

ok here below version 5.2 (with natty's flag - thank you)
I've also added the signatures and i've done some small adjustments.

It looks good... I worry a bit though; if you shrink the flags that small, they may degenerate into pixel-mash in the small version... :-k

Also you could try adding a very slight black stroke / outline on the flags, to make them stand out a bit better.

Then the UN buffer zone... have you considered making it rise up from the map slightly?

Yes, making the UN buffer zone bulge up would make it look less like a badly coloured river. It might require a new way of joining the two halves of Nicosia, though.

I think that if you just make it black or red, it will not look like a river.

Re: Cyprus v5.3

Post by thenobodies80 »

i'm happy with flags (they look good in the small version) and UN zone....i don't see it like a river (the same way it's used everywhere on the cyprus maps) and the gray (green) line is also explained in the legend.
Tried with black, it looks bad....in any case what i'd like to understand is if it's clear that the UN Buffer Zone (or the river ;)) is an impassable.

I did some small improvements (also for the UN zone), here v5.3

[bigimg]http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/3/21/2373685/Cyprus/Cypro%205.3.png[/bigimg]

I'll post a small version asap :)

The impassableness is quite clear... the thick black outline kinda bothers me though, I think it might look better with a thinner outline.

Another possible solution would be, take out the river looking thing, and put in a roll of barbed wire.
