Sacrificial Lambs

Post by Queen_Herpes »

Concise description:
  • Allow bombardment of your own troops

Specifics/Details:
  • ability to bombard your own troops

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • would allow players to get their own armies out of the way on maps that have bombard options
  • would make things interesting especially in a foggy game, a way to keep your troops hidden but still accessible. (ex: in Feudal War, keep a big army off the castle, adjacent to an army of one of your own, on your turn, bombard the army of one...then charge through any enemies or neutrals in your way.)

I would suggest this as an option more than as a rule change. I personally think that if someone screws up like that, then they shouldnt get the option of basically being able to undo it whenever you want. but as an option for ppl who want it or don't care might be nice.

I personally believe this takes away from strategy more than it adds to it. Position your big force on the front line, or hide it for another turn? That's the question now. With this option, the answer is simple: build up behind your 1s, and attack whenever you feel the time is right.

If you allow bombarding your own troops, logically, you almost have to allow attacking your own troops.

And what would be wrong with that?

The only way I can see this option be implemented is if it is implemented as a new XML feature so that mapmakers can make maps where you can bombard your own territories. But changing the rules for bombardment of existing maps is an utterly horrible & stupid idea.

Hm, i wonder what kind of field days the multi's would have with that.

"utterly horrible & stupid idea"

I'm glad I can rely upon the staff and volunteers to choose respectful methods of communicating the position of the company.

To be fair the only people who truly communicate the position of the company would be lack and andy. On a side note though, the reason i disagree with this is that several maps have been made where the gameplay was evaluated based on the fact that this couldnt happen. if it suddenly can it might make certain maps really different to play. I wont go so far as to say whether worse or better.

I'm curious as to why people are so bent on fixing "mistakes" or "accidents" Like accidentally leaving your troops behind a 1, or, as many have suggested, the "redo" button.

Was not so much a suggestion for the "mistake" as it was a suggestion for strategery. I just tossed the mistake thing in there. I'd like to use this in feudal, but I can see where there are a lot of opportunities for abuse or methods for players to suicide on themselves if allowed to attack one's self.

Someone previously mentioned adding it tot he xml code for new maps only. I like that idea. I also like adding it to specific maps as a game option...maps like feudal and other maps where bombarding is an option.

Generally the reasons for this - is because your strategy was poor and that you haven't prepared for your attack correctly...

Therefore I don't support this idea.
