They had some vacancies on the Club Floor, and we were given a free upgrade to that floor which included a lot of nice amenities.

There were other people who came in on the same bus with us that were not upgraded... why were we chosen over these other people.

WE WERE PROFILED.

We have a Disney Mastercard on which we spend a lot of money.

My wife shops at Disney.Com way too much.

We have like Disney Princess everything!

We did belong to their Book Club at some point.

We register all the Disney movies we buy and accrue "rewards" there.

... from all these seemingly separate sources, Disney is collecting data on me and my family. They almost certainly know the age of our daughters (they are young 3 and 6), they have a good idea of our spending habits, and probably have some idea of our income.

They looked at all this and decided to upgrade us.

Profiling.

They likely made some reasonable guess that if they upgrade us now (while we have young children) we would have a more enjoyable trip (which we did)... and therefore we are very much likely to make return trips (which we are).

This profiling benefitted me... and it's a good thing.

Hence profiling (in and of itself) is not a bad thing.

English not being my native language I sometimes have to retype what I read and then read it back to make sure I understand it. I believe Jim said this?

"I am a consumer of consumer goods. I seek benefit and fulfillment in the actualization of marketing initiatives ideated by a Kellogg MBA and directed at me. Just feed me and provide me shelter and regular procreative opportunities and I will be happily docile accepting whatever comes my way. I am a human being, but perhaps not a person. Perhaps a bi-pedal rabbit. Thank you."

Sorry, I can't get into the argument. If you want to argue about the police profiling, I will gladly do that. I'm not going to argue about profiling generally because it's pointless.

You say "profiled", I say "given a little treat, to reward you for giving so much of your hard-earned money to a corporation who has mastered the art of making you think they care about you in order to continue squeezing every last penny they can get, while you and your family continue to feel satiated by made-in-China-by-children wares that just end up sitting in landfill for thousands of years, because it will be totally useless in 5-20 years, but won't bio-degrade until after the sun has burned out".

But hey. Whatever keeps little Sally from crying, and saying that her friends' parents love them more than you love her.

Link related of some sorts.

It gives you some tests to determine whether you have a racial or gender bias or wahtever on a subconscious level. Do you associate dark skin colour with negative words? Or homosexuality with bad words?
"Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill."

Duane: You know what they say about love and war.
Tim: Yes, one involves a lot of physical and psychological pain, and the other one's war.

Yes that is an exact translation.

I wasn't using a simple example of a corporate profiling activity to initiate a debate about what the term "Profiling" means. Neither was I attempting to demonstrate that the term "profiling" has a negative connotation (perpetuated by liberal media) that completely misrepresents what the term actually means. I'm not saying that this misrepresentaion makes the public, with their politically correct sensibilities, unable to see possible positive uses for profiling by law enforcement, airline security, etc.

No I wasn't trying to do any of that.

I was just trying to tell you all I'm a rabbit.

If you have any little Sally's yourself, you know they are pretty hard to resist.

A little girl's control over her daddy is a cross between mind-control and hypnosis that is often near impossible to resist.

This post doesn't really need me to mock it, does it?

It's kind of like a self-peeling banana.

In a nutshell, profiling is an effective tool in fighting terrorism. So is torture. So is retalitory genocide. Use what you have to but don't make it legal - that shit gets way outa hand when you make it legal.

When genocide is done properly, there can be no retaliation.

I agree... I think we (the people) are better off NOT knowing everything the Gov't does to keep us safe. Sometimes I wish the media would just back off.

As I said in the other thread... Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Sometimes we ARE better off NOT knowing.

You certainly can disagree.

There are also times... In relation to military and terrorist issues... that we shouldn't know what is happening, because knowing harms the effort.

Ok... So now go misquote me and/or take this out of context, and add some quick smart-ass remark to "prove" your point, and show everyone how "simple" I am...

What is the difference between "profiling" and an "educated guess?"
