oh shit khaz, I hope you pull through this. there's no prayers to be had from me and you know it, but that doesn't mean I don't wish you to recover and do what you do best.
Does that make you a vampire by the way?
The better news I can share with you all is that David had a helluva rough day yesterday with lines being changed and he was given pint of blood

Here goes...
David had a decent Monday, eyes opening & lots of recognition and we visited at noon to be met with the news that David had his tube removed an hour earlier and had a small bit of "real" food and his eyes lit up and arms came out when we went in...I don't have the vocabulary to describe how this felt but it was incredible to see the change over a couple of days. Difficult to remain calm but we felt he has turned the corner.
Wednesday brought its own challenges...David was moved from the Intensive Therapy Unit to the Renal ward...we all felt this was a bit too soon, mainly because David wouldn't receive one to one care there and he was still somewhat confused amongst his more lucid moments. The visiting hours also changed and when we visited sat 6pm we were met with nurses and doctors running about his room. He had the first of four seizures ( he may have had these before while under sedation but difficult to tell)...scary stuff.
Beyond this we tried to be with him as much as possible but at two separate times when we were told to leave the room we came back to find he had firstly removed his lines ...blood everywhere....the 2nd time he had removed his gastric tube ( the one that was feeding him ) obviously a bit distressing. Dave thought somebody had thrown a screwdriver at him.
Anyway, both my wife and I took it in turns to spend the night with him and we left him at 7am...i've just got up from bed ...he was an absolute gem. He mustered about 40 minutes sleep all night and it was one of the more impossible things to do ( get him to sleep). We called earlier and he is doing much better...has been bathed and is waiting for dialysis but his voice is stronger and we are told he is keeping everybody entertained. I was there last night when he addressed a doctor by his pseudonym...Dr Hashish according to David!
OK guys...apologies for the grisly detail...just a bit knackered to think too much about the content!
i've just called hospital to make sure they get a radio by david so he can watch andy murray's wimbledon progress anbd he has just one the 1st set. hopefully he will get a boost from this.
Another couple of cards have arrived in the post today from THOTA members and we will let him open them later on today.
2pm...just received a call from hospital, David will be going back to Intensive therapy ward as his breathing is irregular...he may receive a tracheostomy...another hazard to overcome.
Thanks all for your continued support, prayers and best wishes...I'm very sure it's making a difference.

Re: Prayers for Khazalid
Hi guys,
Many thanks for your continued support, prayers, well wishes etc...we are grateful & we are reading them out to him regularly.
David will have been in hospital 2 weeks tonight...we felt he had turned the corner a few days back but he hasn't really spoken since Thursday evening and doctors are baffled.
brain scans are coming back clear so we can only just keep hoping. He is with us part of the time but doesn't understand us all of the time so it's very worrying.
That said, despite a few other tribulations including a collapsed lung, he has had a settled night and he passed water for the first time in a fortnight so hopefully his kidmneys are beginning to function.
We are away to head in to see him in the next hour and will spend the rest of the day with him...
A number of cards are finding their way through and he understands the clan & CC members in general are rooting for him.
Thanks one & all.
Ian, Diane, alan & David, x

Re: Prayers for Khazalid - Update from forbert
Hello all...its Sunday morning and we are gearing up for hospital again, I've attached an update below.
Hope you are all well.
The current situation with David is we think his life is out of danger however there are a few complications.
Other than a few single words he hasn't spoken in three days ( he was talking lots) doctors are all a bit mystified as he has had a number of brain scans none of which have indicated any problem at all!
He was a bit out of it yesterday but from teatime he seemed to be very switched on & aware he cannot read ( he was the other day) and cannot speak so we know he is scared.
Obviously we tried to reassure him this was temporary but at least it's indicative of his awareness.
One doctor told us that David said "help me" whilst getting the brain scan, horrible to hear but a sign nonetheless that he knows what's happening.
I wish I could tell you more but we are receiving different messages from medical staff all the time. We thought (as we were told he had urinated) his kidneys were working...they are not.#
We were told he had C Diff...he hasn't.
we were given an indication he may well be moved back to a normal ward as his breathing has stabilised so we will need to see how it pans out.
Thanks for your thoughts & kind words, cards & all...enjoy your Sunday wherever in the world you are.We will read out some more postts to David today.
Cheers, Ian, Diane, Alan

Re: Prayers for Khazalid
Hello All,
David was moved from intensive care to a normal ward at hospital ...ward 26 a couple of days ago.
His breathing is under control and that is enough to be moved from ITU.
He is still receiving dialysis and the overall message is he has had a profound infection and it will take a long time for him to recover.
David is also aching all over and is speaking fairly weakly so it's not getting much easier although we are all grateful he has got this far.
One of the difficult things is getting reasonable access to David at the moment. He needs to receive physio regularly but this isn't happening and we are happy to do this with him as well as help him eat ( currently food is put in front of him and it's not eaten because he is too weak to hold a spoon)...unfortunately visiting time is 2-4 and 630-8, yesterday we saw him for about 50 mins in the afternoon as he was receiving dialysis.
Anyway, it sounds like a big moan and we don't meant to. The best place for David would be back home but he needs to get well enough ie eat more, exercise legs in bed and stand more before we get to that stage. Trying to convince him to do these things is not easy at the moment and he's understandably reluctant to do anything that will cause him more pain.
Thanks for your continued support...its been wonderful.

Glad to hear there has been some improvement. Such things always take a long time, but it sounds like he is heading in the right direction now.

UPDATE as of July 10...
Great news Ian!!...thanks for the update. Nice to hear your coming around khaz!!
forbert wrote:Hello All, Sorry for the delay in updating you all.
Good news - David is making some progress every day - he is receiving physiotherapy and is walking a bit each day. Hopefully the need for dialysis has gone but blood tests are taken every day so we can't say for definite. Although he is weak he seems to be getting stronger every day. We have taken a laptop in and I've asked him to send a message to you all but he wants to do this when he's a little better ( no doubt in his own individual style).Timeframes are difficult for him to comprehend but he is speaking well, readiung and giving some of the less nice nurses a bit of verbal. It will take a bit of time for him to recover but we are all grateful he has reached this stage. Thanks to you all for your thoughts and best wishes.
Some of the cheese from the hamper that was sent a few weeks back has been eaten by khaz ( miles better than the hospital stuff!) but the whisky won't be touched for a while. Many thanks for sending this on as well as the stein & the teddy bear, all appreciated. We are hopeful David may leave hospital within the next fortnight but hopefully the next post is from him!
All the best, Ian, Di, David & Alan
