To me, those mentioned are very one dimensional...if you're not the FASTEST, you're screwed.
Soccer, baseball, basketball and tennis all have other parts to them that really changes the dynamic. I can attest (from personal experiences) that one single attribute in those sports does not mean you are guaranteed a win.
I think of those "racing sports" to be more activities...not sports.
Also, in MY personal definition of a sport, there should be a "score".

I ran the 100 meters in hs and tried in college... I think its one of the purest sports. The score is the time. But I will not argue with you if you call it a competition. I dunno.
