The tree at Canterbury snapped in high winds in 2005(it was dying anyway). It has been replaced with a new tree.

The Oval at Pietermaritzburg, SA also has a tree within the boundary rope.

Unless you live in Canada, where curling is part of daily life during the winter, especially for senior citizens.
I have found a great interest in curling too because of the Olympics.

and this has to do with the thread subject how so?
btw, in ireland and australia it's also called soccer... so not only are you in the wrong thread your statement is also wrong.

As usual, I must apologize that I did not spell this out more completely, for the slower kids in the class.

Just out of curiosity, what did you think I meant, that made you think it was in the wrong thread?

america and can'tada aren't the only places that call it soccer, i grew up calling it soccer and i'm certainly not from north america. typical narrow mindedness from yourself.

it probably is underrated in north america (viewing if not competing) but that's beside the point.

Firstly, my "typical narrow mindedness" didn't say anything about any specific countries. Your narrow minded assumptions about what I meant are the only thing doing that.

Secondly, YOU FUCKING AGREE WITH ME.

Thirdly, stop trying to derail this thread.

Fourthly, comprehension. You're doing it wrong.

I played four years in college, and it is definitely the most underrated in the U.S.

Soccer is not underrated in the U.S. Since I was in middle school, most people I know have played, currently play, or will play soccer.

Really? I didnt realise it was such a well known, popular sport over there.

We play it (and by we, I mean most... I only played indoor soccer when I was little), we just don't really watch it. My wife, sister, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, and most of my friends in high school played in high school. My wife played in college. Some of my friends from high school played in college.

Rugby? Not so much.

Yep. In my small town (where I currently live) there are two teams for each age group (6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13). So, it's big with the little kids. Soccer tends to be a fall sport in the US (at least in my experience), so because parents are concerned about their poor widdle kiddies getting hurt playing football, they make them play soccer (which, maybe ironically, can result in worse injuries - like concussions). Anyway, I digress. Yes, big on an amateur and pre-college level; not as big on a professional level.

Wow thanks mate, i had no idea.

Its a shame its not taken up more at a professional level because USA would have a superb team if it could pull on the resources that your American football pulls on.

Water Polo. It is pretty exciting to watch and requires skills somewhat different from other sports.

Two of the colleges I went to had successful rugby teams. It is, in some respects considered an "elite" sport -- more likely to be played by private schools and such (at least out west), but pretty popular.

The down side is, at the collegiate level, most Rugby teams are only clubs and not scholarship sports.

As to soccer, at least in Laramie, it is pretty big for kids up to high school, and it has 3 seasons here. Spring, Fall, and Winter (indoor soccer). Most kids here play soccer when in grade school and up to Junior High. And about that time, the best players get invited to play in Blizzards. Basically the elite team at that level (they've even gone over to Europe on a few occasions to play there).
Soccer at the college level is given some attention, but during that time, American football is going on and that is known as the king of the college sports. Actually, right now, there is a big chance for a lot of collegiate realignment going on right now due to football.
"Eh, whatever."
