Standards of suspicion are significantly higher for the feds. Also, they won't usually just throw you in jail because you fail to have ID. However, the INS is notorious in violating people's rights as well, even those of citizens.

The issue is not the requirement on non-citizens. The issue is that now citizens are required to carry ID, so they can prove they are citizens.

... Give me a freakin break.

... We (white, black, hispanic, asian...) are forced to show ID at hotels, at banks, and at a host of other places with no relationship whatsoever to law enforcement. So why the hangup with having to show a driver's license to law enforcement?

... And again, why are people not protesting the US law, as it is very nearly same as the Arizona law? Why is Los Angeles not boycotting the United States? .... What did you say? Oh, that's right. Because the Feds don't enforce federal law.

... Way to go, Arizona. That governor should run for the White House.

I do like the idea of a national I.D. Card it would make help keep track of things like the purchases of guns.

Ok, I'm sure you do have a reason, and forgive me if you have already made this case. I might be able to see where you may go with this, and alert me if I covered your point in the post about "the rich guy at the top of the pyramid". It might just be how you say things, but what do you mean by "cut off the jobs"

I mean target the employers. The workers are the symptom. Fighting symptoms is a waste of everyone's time.

I also mean that the reason we have so many illegal immigrants is because so very many people benefit from that system. You want it to stop, the stop the benefit. That, again, means focusing not on the illegal workers, but on the employers and others who benefit.

target the employers? We just elected Obama, so that is pretty much covered.

If you think Obama is going to target employers, you have not paid much attention. He might be slightly better than Bush, but he will not do what needs to be done, because the folks in real power don't want it to happen. They have power because too many Americans would rather fight non-issues than fight against the real establishment in real ways. The problem is not illegal aliens or "entitlements" or anything else you harp on, it is the powerful people not looking at real and true consequences. And, it is a herd of sheep that would rather attack the most convenient targets, in this case illegal aliens, than the real problems.

We have power, we can vote, but don't use that power. Much easier to fight each other than to work together toward real solutions.
Phatscotty wrote:Honestly, we as Americans, have seen enough of OUR GOVERNMENT protecting people that are here illegally; while ridiculing, name calling, showing previous years tax documents, releasing personal phone messages and texts to the media, public humiliation, and demonization of people who are here legally, but just happen to have a different opinion.....

It's actually pretty insane

Gee, seems like this is EXACTLY what you have been doing... except now you shift your target to another outfall, not a real cause, illegal aliens. You want the cause? Look at the infratructure that brought them here. Look at the people with real power and real money who keep thumbing their noses at the rest of us. And, no, it is not you. You may have a couple bucks more than I right now, but you ain't in their league.

So.. might not be quite the place and I didn't read the previous posts but..

I was in Arizona (Tucson to be exact) for a few days and I kept listening to this guy, Michael Savage I think his name is, on the radio and I found him utterly annoying at first but really really funny afterwards.

My question is, is this the position of many republicans in the US in these days?

(To all who have listened to him)

He has some good things to say but he is extreme sometimes. I don't think he's an accurate mouthpiece for all Republicans or even the majority.

I used to like him years ago. I have not listened to AM since talk radio stormed FM. Last I heard Savage was off the air for something or other about islam with something to do in Britain. He is not in our market anymore. He is certainly hard right, and he absolutely HATES Shawn Hannity, Glenn Beck, and MSNBC with a passion.

Favorite Savage quote "....the 9th circuit court of schlemeils...."

the church ppl would have a fit, but im in favor of a tattoo or embedded chip that has a unique id number, because to be honest I sometimes just jump in the car with 80 pesos to go get beer and icecream, i dont carry id always.

But as far as the arizona law goes... i think it shows how sad america has become that the reaction to a pretty simple sensible law that really doesnt change things all that much.

ah, here we go:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strasserism

Strasserism refers to the strand of Nazism and neo-Nazism that called for a more radical, mass-action and worker-based form of National Socialism, particularly hostile to finance capitalism from an antisemitic basis, to be initiated alongside nationalism. It derives its name from Gregor and Otto Strasser, the two Nazi brothers initially associated with this position. Opposed on strategic views to Adolf Hitler, Otto Strasser was expelled from the NSDAP in 1930, while Gregor Strasser was killed during the 1934 Night of the Long Knives.

Not sure exactly how you feel it applies to your argument, but anyway....

except if you don't have ID at a hotel or whatever you don't get thrown in jail. Slight difference.

Spending time, effort & countless millions of dollars attempting to ferret out & deport illegals who are here simply because they want to work is a fools errand. For every one you catch, another will cross back over.

The ANSWER is to devise a program whereby these people can work in our country legally and hence PAY TAXES as well as the companies that hire them. The ANSWER is strict penalties for the companies hiring illegals. It would be like the DEA running around trying to arrest every Crack-Whore in the US instead of going after the dealers & traffickers. I don't care if they come as long as they PAY THEIR TAXES.

The ONE thing I ever thought ole' dopey George had right was his "Guest Worker" plan, which of course was smashed to bits by the xenophobic right.

I like this guy! Arizona Corporation Commissioner Gary Pierce told the mayor of L.A. that if the city of L.A. really wants to boycott Arizona, then the Arizona utility companies that provide L.A. with about 25% of the city's electricity would be more than happy to to sell their product elsewhere!!
