Re: First Nations of South America.. UPDATE 01/08/10
The number of territories is just fine. There are maps that are played with 1vs1 settings that the first attacker takes 1 territory and player 2's bonus goes down by 1 - were they put through the hall of critics on that basis? The map looks incredible.

That there are such maps is no reason to make any more of such maps.
I'd say either add territories or make some neutral. Sure you could make a map that's unfair in seq. 1v1 or 3-4 player games, but why? In some maps it may be acceptable, if the map is clearly designed for other game types, like team games or 6-8 player games. But since most maps these days are designed to be played on all settings, it's better to pay some attention to the territory count.
Besides... How hard can it be to add or substract 4 territories?
Other than the territory count, the map is looking real good IMO.
For the record, the nearest "safe numbers" next to 48 are: 42, 43, 44, 52, 53 and 57.

I think making a few more start neutral is a good idea.

Very nice follow up to your North American map! I don't have anything gameplay related to suggest but as others have said the map could use some more decoration. The big empty area north of the legend for example is perfect for something. Also some more shadowing, to give the map a wrinkled look in a similar fashion to the NA map.
Maybe some trees where there is forest, but I'm not sure. That would break the consistency with the previous map, and I like consistency

I don't need a 500px image in my signature because I don't have anything to compensate for.

Meso-America made to two..
any more advice?
I like this tisha, I like it a lot. Keep the bonuses small, don't let any boneheads talk you into adding more territs to the bonuses. Remember, anything bonus with more than 4 or 5 territs is basically out of play in most games. (Except for that standard, seq. no spoils crap). I like the way the map is.j
As for territs, 44 would be a great number. You could take 1 territ away from each of the big bonuses (the +5 and +6 bonuses) making them bonuses that could actually be taken and held on occasion in a 4 players dubs no spoils, or a trips game.

Your maps are amazing. Your focus on the indigenous makes them really interesting. I hope you continue. Maybe consider an early historic period Hawaii map for your next endeavor; there's lots of detailed accounts for that area about how different groups organized themselves on the landscape. Please keep up the good work!

Stamp it already. The bonuses seem solid to me.

Can't do it without Tisha addressing the territory number issue. The same problem came up in beta for North America, too; we can't just leave this map the way it is.

I think the map is fine as is. Stamp it... Who cares if the map is 40, 41, 42, or 50... it will likely play nice... I seen much worse come out of the foundry...

48 territories is not good for 4 player games. Everyone starting with 12 territories gives too big an advantage to whoever goes first...

my laptop hard drive died a while back ago, I'm just waiting to get that back from the shop, and see if I have a map left.

Since we're awaiting a switch to graphics anyway, why not I drop a few comments for other things you can edit graphically in future versions.
- The map looks relatively empty. I know you have the same visual style from North America, but South America is a smaller continent (and the gameplay itself is smaller). Try adding some visual fluff to the sides to make it look fuller.
- The Passable/Impassable section is very spread out and looks off-kilter with the left justify. Perhaps center the symbols underneath the text and compress it just a little bit?
- The passable bridges look very flat and fake compared to your exquisite mountains. Rivers are flat, but it fits with the map style, so no complaints there.
- No signature? *wink wink nudge nudge*

Alas! It would appear that development of this map has stalled. If the mapmaker wants to continue with the map, then one of the Foundry Moderators will be able to help put the thread back into the Foundry system, after an update has been made.

Yay, your map survived! Happy days.
IIRC 52 is good...
...yes, 52 is just fine. Mods, get this map moving again, post haste!

Looking good. I'm not sure about the Igneri-Carib double dead end -- the sort of dead end that forces you to split your forces if you're passing through; I generally see them as an annoyance -- but it's not a game-breaker if you like it.
Perhaps Tiwanaku for the unnamed Central Andes region?

I disagree. Those kind of dead ends bring lots of strategy into escalating games, you have to plan your eliminations much more carefully when you have to consider how many troops you need to split, and how many you can afford to split... If they are not overused, they add to the gameplay IMO.

This looks great, I'd like to see Incan ruins or something above the Rules. Maybe a totem pole... I'm not sure what specifically but something that looks sweet.

Yay, its back! I've been waiting months for this to be revived. I can't wait to play this.
Re: First Nations of South America.. UPDATE page 8
any more game play problems? I like the two dead ends, and would reallly prefer to keep them.

Re: First Nations of South America.. UPDATE page 8
It seems to me the bonus for Northern Andes is a bit low... IMO 3 would be more appropriate.
