I know this sounds crazy, but any way your could tuck in "Antioch" into the back of richmond or put it in small print. Thats where I stay and it kills me that Im just on the other side of that hill.

sorry. i cant really. the 'san francisco bay area' represents a ton of areas, and the border on this map had to be drawn somewhere. there are a lot of things cut (most of the penninsula, hayward, san jose, antioch, etc) but it had to happen....

font updates coming in a little bit...

due to popular request....here are some different font options...
marin (green) - same as original - times new roman
richmond (purple) - butter font
s. san francisco (cyan) - FrancophilSans font
downtown (red) - Arial Narrow
contra costa (yellow) - Garamond
oakland (blue) - original - times new roman

which one do you like the best?

FrancophilSans looks good except for the y-v collision in "Bayview"... I don't think it's a good place for a ligature.

I'm trying to come up with a golden gate bridge for you... maybe over the weekend.

Brilliant. Are the bridge and alcatraz gonna be +1 bonuses?

sweet. i do like that these maps are collaborative efforts. and im totally into any help anyone wants to offer...if the layered image would help email me and ill get that to you.

I think we've agreed that alcatraz will be a +1 bonus, but you need to hold either downtown or marin to get the bonus (so you cant start with it).

as far as the GG bridge, i still feel that its kinda cramped in that area, but we can see if we can squeeze it in there. same bonus as alcatraz? (but richmond/marin)

I feel like maybe if we want to start making that a bit of a theme of the map then we should find other such neutral areas to give bonuses, or it kinda almost make the maps focus marin?

I guess I'm strange, but I like the garamond (yellow) font best. The Golden Gate Bonus/neutral territories theme is cool, another great idea for this map!

Why not just have Alcatraz as +1 anyway... It's most likely that whoever holds either of those continents will go for it anyway, the only real change would be that the player who starts with it gets an advantage.

Hm, it's true one player would have a nice little advantage, but I don't think it's necessarily bad, at least in this case.

I agree.

However, I would love to see Alcatraz as having one way borders leading in from both sides - you can attack and conquer it but you can't attack out. Would make it a unique feature for sure!

Probably not gonna happen though :D

Haha, interesting...and makes sense. Who really can escape from Alcatraz...besides Clint Eastwood?

What if it just said

Marin +3 (+4 if held with Alcatraz)
Downtown +7 (+8 if held with Alcatraz)

yes, but the issue has always been that it's either unfair to give it a disadvantage, or that it's unfair to give it an advantage.

What if it had BOTH? Make it a +1, all on its own, AND make it so you can't attack out. That way it's nice to have for the bonus, but absolutely no help strategically.

yeah. I think ill go with....
-can attack in, cant attack out...
-simple +1 army

Ive been against it because I didnt want someone to have an advantage right off the bat with the +1. and then tonight, oddly enough, I started a classic game and one of the players started with 3 of 4 countries in australia...so, my point is people start with advantages all the time...so who cares? If the other players are good, they will negate this advantage by ganging up...

anyways...that is the new plan. im pretty sure most everyone is ok with it.

Oakland is not worth 4 points. It is adjacent to yellow which has 2 borders. Whoever gets yellow is more than likely to get dark blue which is worth 4 points and will give them 6 bonus for 2 borders.

very unbalanced in that area...
