I'd prefer it if we were painting somewhere in London, instead of me having to drive for 20 minutes to a flood protection wall along the Thames in deepest, darkest Essex... I'd get the bus / train and get pissed.
I never used to paint sober. I needed some dutch courage to break into the yards / jump over live rails / press your body up against the tunnel walls as the train flew by.

Since I've discovered this flickr site and all of these old writers, I've come to the conclusion that being a graffiti artist is / was more dangerous than being a fisherman or deep sea diver. The amount of RIP dedications is scary.

Some of these guys were batshit crazy. Train surfing underground trains is fucking madness. Several died by getting wiped out by footbridges, let alone entering the tunnels.

This may sound a little random, but how much does this hobby cost you do you think? This looks expensive. Do you buy the cheapest cans of paint or quality?
It is pretty though. And with a name like Pedro it will be harder to get caught. I know.

I'll do one eventually. give me some time to get several designs / colour schemes out of my system.

I wanted to write the full "the odd fellows union" to make it the right size for a sig. But that's a hell of a lot of paint. I need to think about it.

A can of paint costs me £3.50 and it's 400ml per can. The paint I'm using has been developed by and for graffiti artists. It's really good paint, covers like no other paint, high pigmentation, low pressure and more colours than you can point a stick at.
The Pedro piece probably took required the following cans;
Outline:
1 1/2 cans of aubergine
Fill:
2 cans of light green
1 can of turquoise green
2 cans of mid blue
1 can of light blue
1/2 a can of white for marbling effect
Background:
1 1/2 cans of lettuce green
1/2 can of black forest green
3D
2 1/2 cans of violet

12.5 cans x £3.50 = £43.50

Wait, how do you make different sized lines and circles? Is it just how far away you hold the can or is there a special head set for the paint cans that you buy? Do you use a ruler or something to catch the paint?

Also, are you still Freehand or are you Pedro now?! :P

Different sized circles are made by spraying a circle outline then filling in the centre of the outline.

There are different types of Nozzles (we call them 'caps')
You get a skinny cap for outlines
a fat cap for filling large areas
a fade cap for blending
and there is also a calligraphy cap that sprays a thin wide line so you can tag (write your name) calligraphy style.

Line thickness is mainly achieved by painting 2 or more lines with a skinny cap because they offer a sharper edge to a line.

What I'm painting is legal so I have a lot of time on my hands. If I were doing it illegally - neatness and sharpness goes out the window and you tend to concentrate on getting the job done in the quickest time (fat cap outlines) to avoid getting caught. That said, the better / neater an illegal piece - the more kudos....

I don't use a ruler to catch any paint. You gain more kudos from your fellow writers for pulling off stuff that is hard to do whilst just doing it freehand and using techniques such as cutting in lines to get the perfect finish.

I'm still writing freehand, but for the last 10 years I've doodled Pedro so many times because the letters are nicer and have different shapes. An H and an A are very similar shapes, 2 'E's next to each other are hard to get right. If one is slightly different from the other, it highlights the mistake.

yes there are so called legal walls, but the one I paint at has had some stories where guys got arrested, so It's a bit of a gamble.

As far as keeping in touch with my feminine side - I always wanted to do a pink piece because pink spray paint used to be rare. Now days - there are about 18 shades so I was spoilt for choice. The red outline just works really well.

Those are actually pretty amazing. At first I thought you were only capable of doing that block letter 3hand design, but clearly you've got more artistic skill than that.

I love this idea.

Some guy has taken a better picture which shows the colours better and the overall size of the image is larger (I had the sun shining in my lens when i was taking photos)

I'm sort of against this in principle. I can really aprecieate it when it's done so well and you seem to be about finding places that are not someone's garage door. So I'll compliment you. Nice works!

I'm tempted to get you to do my name and get some scottish dude in trouble over there.
