Re: WWII Pearl Harbor - [Quenched]
My suggestion: Call the older version by the name that it was... and call the New version by a newer name... say "Pearl Harbor "Beta" Advanced" or whatever... and keep both maps for use. That way the ones who want to experiment with their toys can do so and the rest of us can play on as usual. My son and I enjoy playing one on one with the old map and you have it locked away from us.

I love playing the Pearl Harbor map and I think the only room for improvement might be to expand it a bit. It seems like this can be a map for a max of 5 players.

Can you expand on those thoughts more please. Why 5 players. Why shouldn't 8 be allowed to play it.
What sort of expansion have you in mind.
Glad you enjoy playing it though.

Is there actually any chance of seeing the map changed? I quite loved the map and i'm in the camp of "it shoudlnt have changed". However, i can understand why some people wouldve liked the changes. If there can not be a total revert to the original, at least consider making the plane bonuses stronger again (+1 for 2, +2 for 3 or somethign along those lines)

After a suitable period of time like a couple of months, i will review the situation, and yes if there is general dissent about the current bonus situation, i am quite happy to change it again providing that is OK with powers that be.
My preference would be to change it back to the way it was, since i beleive that the original bonus provided a better scenario of what the map was about.

Re: WWII Pearl Harbor - [Quenched]
I have a question about game play on this map.
How do you capture the aircraft that are not accesible from the AA guns?
And as for the planes that become neutral from AA bombardment, is there any way to actually capture those, or do they stay neutral throughout the game?

They're captured from whatever target they are firing bullets at such as battelships etc.

I thought the legend said they were 1 way attacks.
But okay, thanks.

This should have been moved to the Final Forge for the duration of the Beta period...
What is the consensus on the changes to the map? Is it more balanced, or did it play better before we changed it? Both cairns and I would like to see this put to bed, and the options facing us are
- a) stick with the adjusted (current) version.
b) revert to the original version.
edit: I've posted a poll in General Discussion where it might attract more feedback than this thread: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=111184

Re: WWII Pearl Harbor - [Quenched]
Well, it seems pretty similar to the current one. Is the only difference the aircraft bonus?
Anyway, either version seems good to me. It kinda makes sense to make the aircraft powerful, and if people really want the old version back then by all means give them what they want... doesn't matter much to me as I mostly play escalating these days

Re: WWII Pearl Harbor - [Quenched]
After much ado, the decision has been made to revert to the historic Pearl Harbor map, which put more of the gameplay focus on the aeroplanes.
While there were plenty of thoughtful suggestions for finding some middle-ground between the original and the altered version, these have been put to one side in lieu of the tried-and-tested (and preferred) original version, which is 2 posts (^^) above this one.
On behalf of cairnswk and the foundry, I would like to thank everybody who voted in the GD poll, and particularly those who shared their opinions. The 'updated' map will go live in due course; in the meantime I have closed down the map for new games in order to minimise the effect of the reload on active games.
Many thanks,

Good stuff, glad to see we're back to assaulting the Hawaiian islands in the old method.

I do wish that the one-way between the Control Tower and California were a two-way. You can control well over half the map with Oklahoma (assuming that you get the left side and upper side of the map).

good point... that choke point is big. a player owning the upper/left part of the map controls 30+ in bonuses while the bottom/right is (roughly) around 20. the upper map need only defend Oklahoma to protect nearly everything from invasion.
