It all looked very supernatural.

nope... I think that it was to contain Easu... remember that it was Christian that Locke saw in that cabin before?

Brilliant! My new favorite theory, but with 8 mos to go it may change several times.

Some of my thoughts:
1.) I don't think Jacob is dead. He didn't even flinch when Ben started stabbing him. It was like, "Nice try Easu! You think your so clever! You idiot" And we know that whoever Jacob touches comes back to life. He will touch Locke again and we will have a Locke vs Un-Locke showdown!

2.) Juliette is dead. I knew she would die, the second Kate arrived back on the island. There is no way the writers would paint Sawyer as a jerk by making him leave Juliette after being with her for the past 3 years. They had to write the breakup in a way that everyone could still like sawyer (thus juliette died).

3.) I don't think the bomb went off. We had 5 great seasons of "Can you change the future?" and it won't be answered a season early.

Is it actually even possible to jump into the show now and understand what the hell is going on?

It is---I've known a few friends that have just jumped into the show and have picked up on what has been going on. There are a lot of little recaps you can watch about each episode/season.

But if you want to do it justice---settle down for a couple of days or weeks or months, and watch it all online for free at ABC.com

Before this past season, I rewatched it all with a friend of mine that had heard about it, but never watched it. I got her hooked on it ---and it was quite fun to go back and watch the show through once again, just as a refresher. I picked up on a lot more details that I missed out on in the early seasons. :)

I watched prison break all the way through.
I didn't really want to, but I was kinda stuck. (I don't like to leave things half finished, it would have bugged me forever).
Season1 and most of Season2 were awesome, but then it just got stupid. I'm glad it's over now. I didn't mind how it ended either, but if Lost ends that way I might have a problem.

I found it to be frustrating, as always, but even more so than normal because they have been advertising for the past month that this will be the "season of answers, no more questions", but that episode(s) was probably one of the most confusing to date. I wish I had taped it so I could re-watch it now.

I had kinda thought for the past year that Jacob and "the man in black" (referred to as Esau in this thread) were battling Gods or demi-Gods of a sort. The statue is the main component for showing a true depth of time, as it is easily hundreds of years old, beyond the French ship and likely even the Black Rock.

Then I noticed that of all the characters, only 3 don't age. Well, 1 is an inference, but I think it's a (relatively) safe assumption at this point. Even the "Others", whom still exist, like Ben and the stewardess and the 2 kids, all age on the island. It's only Jacob, Esau, and surprisingly, Richard Alpert, who never age through the entire timeline. Even Widmore and Hawking aged, but not Richard. Then "Locke" dropped the line about Richard "being out of chains finally" (something along those lines) before kicking his ass. Which lead me to my newest theory:

Esau and Jacob are not battling Gods - they are the good and evil side of a God, which I believe will be proven to be the island. Richard is the consciousness of the "angel" and "devil" on the shoulders. He is the adviser, but not the decision maker, and he never ages. We as the viewers we lead to believe at the end of last season that Jacob was the "bad" side, but after that episode I'm thinking he's the good side, and had managed to contain Esau with the black powder and subsequently somehow "chained" Richard to his side.

I am as yet at a loss to explain the two timelines - and Juliette's final line via Miles "it worked", but I am sure that will become clear(ish) later.

I couldn't agree with you more on this one! The creators of LOST said they will only explain out what they feel is important on the characters. I guess by seasons end we will have to see what that means.
