what's wrong with country

It instills a feeling of hopelessness, therefore many suicidal people listen to country. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Country music is repetitive and derivative. It's pretty much the only type of music I refuse to listen to.

I do like the video for Electric Six's "Gay Bar."

I really like Korppiklaani and Flogging Molly, But I like a wide range, including some Robert Johnson and Bob Dylan.

 Fair enough; though I don't find SOAD's music terrible or repetitive.

I have one album that has country music on it - the soundtrack to We Were Soldiers... (I purchased it for two songs - "Sgt. MacKenzie" and "The Mansions of the Lord"). Here are the country songs on that particular soundtrack:

Carolyn Dawn Johnson - "Some Mother's Son"
Steven Curtis Chapman - "Soldier"
Tammy Cochran - "I Believe"
Jamie O'Neal and Michael McDonald - "Not So Distant Day"
Montgomery Gentry - "Didn't I"
Rascal Flatts - "The Glory of Life"

I have also listened to the various "popular" country artists, though I cannot recall their names or songs.

Basically anything you hear on radio or on that dumb fucking country music channel is going to be terrible, derivative, repetitive, jingoistic bullshit. shanaia twain, hannah montanna, all that crap is just awful. but top 40 rock isn't any better -- if i hear one more fucking nickelback song on my way to work i swear to god i'll drive my car up a tree.

any genre is capable of producing good music. genres aren't magical, rigid formulas, and good artists don't let genre constrain what they do. take a listen to these country songs and keep an open mind:

Rise Up with Fists!!!!

She'll Hang the Baskets

Pentagram

Czolgosz's Dream

I liked all these songs; however, I question whether any of them can be classified as "country."

Jenny Lewis "Rise Up with Fists" - I like it, but I would call it folk more than country.
Cake "She'll Hang the Baskets" & "Pentragram" - I did not realize that Cake was considered country. "Pentagram" has a little country twang to it, but I'd call it bluesy more than anything else.

Cake does several genres, including country. Pentagram is from their first album, which i would say is entirely country.

rabbit fur coat is alt-country, as is pretty much all good country these days

Here's some good teen angst for everyone. I heard this on the radio last night. I'd be lying if I said I'm not a sucker for anthemic angsty rock like this. I've never heard of these guys before, but I guess they're poised to be new commercial rock radio darlings. Is it worth picking up their album? If there are any fans here, where should I start? They appear to have been around for awhile, and definitely sound similar to Stabbing Westward.

Some people call Wilco "alt-country" too. Or Band of Horses. Both are great bands.

Tool What a Freaking powerhouse live experience and another great L.A. band.
Got lucky enough to see Maynard et al do their deal at some small club in Long Beach b4 they hit it big.
Opened up with HUSH...never their best song but a nice set opener.
This shows just how raw they were back then.
INTENSE...mynard staring at u with his freaky eyes and bulging forehead veins. :D

I feel terrible i didnt include a Classical Music/Symphony one in the poll. The reason i couldnt bring myself to do that is because regular main stream music has branched off of classical music in a way where its almost unrecognizable to how they could be compared. I myself love Symphonic music, but it wouldnt be right for this type of venue :D.

One of the Best conductors in my opinion Was Karajan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhcR1ZS2hVo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDar-ycF5fE&feature=related

Beethoven's 5th... Very impactful peice of music its where Beethoven changed the regular style. :) The full symphony if u listen to it is quite good :).

Yeah¡¡

Actually, now I think that twoo fo the masterpieces of music are
[*] Carmina Burana - Carl Orff
[*] Obertura 1812 - Tchaikovski

And to include the classic music in the poll, I'm not sure...i think that it's far beyond regard the "popular music". We loved that popular music, but I think that Classic is the truly major league
