Team Game Strategy

Post by TuckerCase »

Does anyone have any team game tips? How best to work with partners, or other team game specific strategies?

So then I guess there're three different explanations...
1. You were lucky in general and specifically when it came to the dice.
2. You were lucky and got good partners.
3. You're such a great player that you're able to acrry a team effort on your own back.

But since there's no such thing as luck (only probabilities) and since the dice is evil, I guess that explanation one and two can be ruled out if you played more than three team games...

Why don't you take TuckerCase under your wings (broad enough to match the wingspan of a condor) and turn him from a single player boy into a team playing man... :D :D :D

Doubles/Triples Advice - Open floor discussion

Post by Jackal_174 »

Hello fellow conquer club players!

Do you have any advice or tips on better playing in doubles and triples? I know there must be subtle differences as I struggle with these scenarios.

I am always diligent about fortifying my partner where it seems logical to give them men (a.k.a. they have more in that area and therefore have a good shot at getting it). My teammates are usually good about it too. It must just be similar to campaign vs multiplayer FPS video games --> you need a whole different strategy. Any thoughts would be welcome!

Thanks!

the only thing i can think of off the bat would be to not go crazy and completely fortify everything to your partner in the first round. you want to steadily grow, as getting a 1st territory should be your primary goal. then you can feed armies to your teammate as well so he/she can get one. you want the territories to be on the same side of the map so you have less boundaries, and can work only 1 way to DESTROY the other team. the only other thing i can think of right now is to make sure you communicate. i don't know how much me and ralph talk in game chat, in person, and on MSN when we are getting ready to take a turn. this will allow you to do the most damage and make sure you are on the same page. remember, even in sequential, you can fortify some of your armies to your teammate, b/c he can give them right back to you after his/her turn.

did i miss anything you guys?

Communication is the point that can't be stressed enough. The whole goal should be to find (or recruit) a regular partner that you have the means to communicate easily with. Talking in game chat or via PMs is okay if both you and your partner(s) are veterans, but if you're still trying to get the hang of team games, IMs or MSN or actual face time will help you immeasurably.

One other thing you might want to do is look for open doubles games against badass opponents. Sure, you'll probably get your ass kicked, but you'll have a chance to watch and see how a top-notch team goes about its business, and you'll learn a few tricks to spring on your next opponents.

Happy hunting.

sorry, i forgot to mention that about fortifying continents so your partner can take them more easily.

and yeah, regular partners are good. one of my normal partners is ralphplar7. after a while, you get the hang of each other's game styles, and how to win more effectively.

Follow up question

Post by Windparson »

To learn more, I have purposely looked for doubles and triples games where there are one or two very high ranked player and I try to get on their team. That way, I am part of what they do, and almost everyone I have been a teammate with has been more than willing to teach.

I announce in the game chat I defer to rank and experience and desire to learn. I know enough of what to do if I end up being a "lead" or starting player, so that the game can get going in a timely manner.

I guess my question is, is what I am doing considered bad form? I have never had any one ask me not to team up with them again, but if they did I would honor it.

Even though I have not progressed far, Sgt. now, and I was a Lt. for a couple of hours, I know I am farther along than I would have been just going it alone.

Thanks

i don't see anything wrong with that...the best way to learn is to do. so, if other's don't mind you being on their team, it's the easiest/best way to win games, and learn strategy. this has helped me many times, and i have even had some people join up with my team for the same purpose. it doens't bother myself, or any of my regular partners because it helps get more good and challenging players in the game. i bet even blitzaholic would agree that everyone starts at the benginning and has to learn. i almost bet that he too joined some games early on with highly ranked players so he could learn more quickly and easily.

Doubles becomes easy points after a while with a good partner. You learn where you are going before the other announces it. You know where your partner is strong at and where he is the weakest. You compliment each other in your own ways and learn from each others victories and defeats. You grow togother and die togother.

I love playing doubles with my partner. Very talented and always fun!

not if that means one in your own team has to go suicidal.

Team games are about communication and ability to support another at the cost of your own strenght.

Yeah, I think that's the secret. You need to balance your own conquests so you get the bonus armies, but you want to weaken the bad guys as soon as you can.

There have been times when I have used one, the other, or both. If you know you are hopeless give your partner your troops and your cards if you can! I just never give up though!

depends on the situation and the type of game.

for example in freestyle you can both hit begin turn and deploy all troops to only one. the fortified one attacks and then sends all the troops to the other so he can attack.

this works best when a continent protects another continent. like in the montreal map. player A&Bare in the same team. both deploy troops in A territory and he conquers Ile Bizard. then A ends attacks and reinforces B so he can conquer Suburbia.

there are a lot of tactics and this is just one of them. it all depends on initial deployment, if it is a sequential or freestyle game, etc. there are a lot of factors and good comunication allways hepls

Triples Help

Post by D-money »

I am starting to play some triples but do not have a grip on the best strategy. The games I mostly play are Seq/No Cards(sometimes flat)/Unlimited.
