Thanks saaimen. This was already fixed and updated so the XML link previously posted was still the most current and accurate.

Sweet! New map is up and it changed when I was doing an escalating sweep, which threw me off a loop for a second trying to adjust but still completed the sweep and got my swords back too! Good day all round!

Grats Sully.

haha! The sudden change threw me for a loop as well, and I had a good idea it was coming! ;)

Thanks everyone, it's nice to see it well liked (at least in the first few moments of being live)

To commemorate this moment, here is a bunch of crap that I made which got cut out due to the power of the wise foundry members (of course it was never quite such a hodge podge, but I also made many more titles and legends not included below). Yay foundry members for steering the design so well!

I saw the message it was updated, had to go check it out.

I still think it's retarded in order to see all the maps you first click on "start a game" and then on "browse maps". There should be a link to "map gallery" right below "game finder" or something....but on to the map.

It looks okay, except for Novosibirsk. Those 3 lines, 1 running all the way down to manila, is very poorly done.

Looking back through the revisions, R6 looks to be where it went from "Awesome start" to "now we are going down hill".

This is just my honest opinion, the new map is hard to look at. I think you did a beautiful job, but having the continents all the same color plus all the lines going everywhere, well, maybe it will grow on me.

--edit --

bring back the old classic shapes, please!

sully800...

I don't get it. There's been a whole lot of arguing about saturation/brightness/... and there was a good compromise everyone agreed on.
If I go to page 1 of this thread now, the map looks beautiful.
But go to "Game Finder" and click the thumbnail there (or FWIW, just have a look at a game) and say what you see.
I see a muted, 'dead' version of the colourful map you created here.
How come?

I notice the same thing. The images I submitted were the same ones posted in this thread, but the product we are seeing in games does look muted or washed out. I don't know what is causing that discrepancy, but maybe it can be fixed.

Hey timl,

I responded to your PM already, and said that distinct regions like Classic Art were not possible and it was mandated to use points connected by lines like in Classic Shapes. As for the coloring of the continents - the earth tone scheme was picked to differentiate from other maps and to give a more realistic feel to the map. I hope that it will grow on you, because as often seen on CC change is hard to adjust to. After time most users like the change, but I understand the big shock can be tough to get over!

I appreciate all the hard work that goes into creating maps but I think I like the old, "blocky", classic map better.

This just isn't true. On the old Risk board, sure. But geographically, the Ural Mountains are typically considered the east/west boundary between the two continents (north of the Black Sea). Moscow is well west of the Urals. Culturally, religiously and historically, Moscow is also more European than Asian. The only way Moscow is not European at the moment is politically. Regardless, I digress. Geographically--the only thing that really matters here--Moscow is in Europe.

Anyway, as for the map, I'm very happy to see it quenched. I'm sure, as always happens, some will resist change; but I can't imagine that many people will be longing for the art or shapes maps in a few weeks.

Buenos Aires is misspelled as "Beunos Aires" in the code.

Did we ever have an actual coordinate check on this?

88's are on page 37 if you would like to check alignment. Whenever someone mentioned there was a centering issue I corrected it, though I suppose some could still be slightly off.

Thank you Peter.

The XML has been corrected and can be found here: http://h1.ripway.com/bjs309/_ClassicXML11.txt

(This may take some time to be updated, so fortunately it doesn't affect gameplay).

Perhaps bedub1 made one or more valid point. What would it take to have Shanghai and no Manila?
