high ranks know how to pull off good dice?
Do you play an unimportant game and roll some dice until you have a feeling that next rolls will be good, and then get on the game where you can't afford poor dice? It just seems like some ppl have special skill at dice rolling..

It's all true. Higher ranked players tend to be better than most at playing the odds.

It's better to be lucky than good.

Re: high ranks know how to pull off good dice?
Ive seen artists with the dice. Ive seen minutes, go by between rolls on important games. And Ive seen it work on occasion. I myself cant be botherered, and really just hit auto on any non important game and hope for the best.
I'm Spanking Monkey now....err...I mean I'm a Spanking Monkey now...that shoots milk

I use the dice enhancer from the Addons/Plugins. I need to update it though, it has been flashing at me for a couple weeks now.
If you wrong me I will hunt you down and destroy you.

Higher ranked players seem to be better at getting a higher rank. Has anyone else noticed this?

I guess it's just superstition, but every time I get a -2 roll I spend a few minutes on the forums or some other site, then come back... usually I'll get better rolls that way. Then when I get a +2 roll I try to click the assault button as fast as I can to keep the luck rolling
I guess it's because we can't get virtual blonde chicks to blow on our dice...

I'm in negotiations right now to sell my soul to the Devil to improve my throws.

Once you understand the true definition of random, anything a computer can compute is not random.... thus you will never get 'random' dice... example is if you map out a series of 'random' numbers generated on a computer, it becomes a long sequence repeated over and over again... another example is if you ever had a CD walkman with the random or mix up setting, it becomes apparent that each song is still played in a sequence, just not in the same order of track 1 to track 15 or how ever many you have(this becomes less apparent if your listening to your hard drive of songs, because I have seen some last a couple weeks of straight listening before playing every song)...

You are correct that a computer is not truly capable of being "random". That said... the pattern generated by a "random number generator" like random.org is so complex that for all intensive purposes it is random. There's no way a person can predict the outcome of the next roll. I mean at any given moment there are hundreds (or thousands) of "roles" being made that said person had no knowledge of. Even with that knowledge you'd need another computer to help make the calculations... and even then it would not be 100%.
People play the odds... and some people are better at that than others.
Some people are "lucky"... the very definition of random is such that you are going to have people who "throw better dice" than others. Some will win more often... some will lose more often... that's part of what makes the numbers random.

Re: high ranks know how to pull off good dice?
Aren't the random numbers on random.org picked up from static radio noise or some such? Or something which has nothing to do with computer algorithms. Therefore, the argument that computers can't produce random numbers would be void.
Anyway there's no such thing as luck. It's all a big synchronicity!

No luck? So people who win in lotery exactly know what number its a winner?

No. It's all a case of statistics and probabilities.
If there's a 1 in a million chance of winning a lottery, and a million people play, then statistically one of them is going to win. Just the same, if one person would play the lottery a million times, statistically he would win at least once.
Of course, in real life, this is not necessarily the case. The random factor comes in play.
Now did you really need me to explain to you how a lottery works or did you just want to be a smart ass?

Re: high ranks know how to pull off good dice?
I agree and use the "Pause" strategy. I have 2 negative rolls and I wait. Sometimes as much as 5 minutes depending on game and situation.
Also, on a different point, its hard to be random!
We did a faux paint job for a lady in her bathroom. We used a sponge and a different color of paint. She wanted "random" sponge impressions on the wall.
Do you know how hard it is to be random? We are wired to see patterns and duplicate them. It was rough.

for extra fun, I try to guess the numbers I will roll, when I say 1,1,1..I almost always do better!
