Keep the water and text like it currently is. Just darken the colors like mibi's

Also, If you need more room over in the abbreviation section, put the states in this order.
    New Mexico
    Indiana
    Virginia
    Kentucky
    Tennessee
    Penn
    New Brun
    PEI

It will aid in following the slant of Baja

I liked v13.1a with black fill layer @35%, but v12.8 is OK.
Can you make a version with inner division lines less thick?

You need to mask out the important parts, and not just use a blanket fill layer. Keep the edges darker where there is less relevant info. When I said darker, I did not mean literally. I meant figuratively, though i think the colors are too bright.

Yeah, just the fill colors need to be darker…

Of the four versions of the map on this page, mibi's at the top has the most pleasing aesthetic.

As for the gameplay vote for Canada, you'd be best off leaving it how it is; you should be focusing on bringing the graphics up to the top-notch, rather than fiddling with the gameplay which (hopefully) has no significant flaws ;-)

And that I am working on, stretching my knowledge a little, but I'll get it done as close to Mibi's example as I can :D

Here is a quick overlay i did up.

I had this set to overlay 75% As you can see i masked out most of the middle. This is a PNG with transparency.

I really can't stand any of the darker versions of the map. I think it actually ruins the map honestly. I'd hate to see a darker map, at least for this project.

I'll second that. There's really no need for anything like a darker edge here.

Okay folks tell me what you think of this version. I just reduced the brightness a little on some of the colors.

The last version is the best. The danger with a darker map is that some people (myself included) will have trouble making out the text. This looks very cool!

True, although maybe I can lighten it up just a tad bit and make sure the text is readable.

I like those orange arrows a lot, but I do not think that they need the outer glow, at all.
Also, I mentioned this this a while back about the bevel on bonus areas. They seem to appear to be overlapping the area to south of themselves. Like fallen dominoes, if that makes since. I don't know if it is the global light position or not. But something is a little screwy there. And it is not as noticeable in some places as others. Mexico, Florida and Libertarians is the the worst places.

Not sure what you mean, as I do not have any bevels. It could be because the outlines of each bonuses is making it show up more. Which is okay because we want people to know exactly where the bonus borders are.

Anyways here is the next version. I lightened up a couple of the bonuses as they were a little to dark, and I increased the outer glow a little around all the text to make them stand out better.

I notice the blue numbers show up poorly in Deseret.

Yep.

.44 Freeman is a patriotic survival militia group.

I think the thing I liked about mibi's darker version was that it added some texture to the map too... Select black and white from your colour palette, and fill a new layer with "Clouds" (it's a filter option in PS); adjust the contrast of that layer so that it's less gray and more black, and then reduce the opacity to somewhere between 5-15%. That will add a very slight texture to the background, and might make things feel a bit darker. Alternatively, you could use the layer that mibi posted, and just use a lower opacity than he suggested, or mask out some of the darker bits a tad?

Okay, will give it a shot Mr.Benn! Will post sometime in the next couple of days.

On a different note, looks like most want to leave Canada as is.

The arrows look better. ;)
BTW, you do have bevels, you just used an inside shadow or glow, to create them. Somewhere something is off. One or more of your treatments has possibly got the global light coming from an angle instead of straight down.

Yes, my point is whether it's Freeman's [Area] or Freemen. Just seems off, especially because you yourself said "Freeman."
