Much like CC, I had a game with 3 invincible tanks defying the odds regardless of how much stuff I tossed their way and right now I'm dealing with an indestructible empty transport that's in my way.

A current head-to-head game with Woodward has been chocked full of surprises... like getting stomped by minimal troops and an entire fleet avoiding confrontation by slipping past my supposed submarine blockage. Some of the recent battles were so discouraging I nearly emptied my Capital in frustration to accept the inevitable terms of surrender. But instead I'm marching onwards through the fog.

hmmm. a few things. first of all, do you know about the arctic sea space at the top of the board. drag the board down, all the way down, down down down. now look at the top. that MIGHT be how he slipped past. did the battle occur in the northern part of the map?

You made an excellent move into Europe this past turn, though. Believe it or not, I actually anticipated it and so built a factory on that 5-unit territory, thinking it was safe...unfortunately, you used the Arctic and happened to unload there out of coincidence. So now I'll have to remove you the old-fashioned way. <grin>

How about the game where two of my destroyers attacked a lone destroyer. I lost a destroyer, his remained. I attributed it to my navy must be French.

I am simply a strategerizing genii.

It was a freak show and total avalanche of disaster cover to cover. My bad stratagerizing compounded by your overwhelming numbers. I knew it was trouble right from the start just looking for a Capital and seeing that you had potential Capitals on every continent... and me being stuck with a single choice on the BIG MAP.

Absolutely stomped in twenty turns, though my fate was determined much sooner.

well, the game can be weird that way. some of the games there start off with one player holding more spaces than one might think.

I forgot to mention that Woody's excellent tactics were very problematic too.

I play TripleA, which is not browser based, but there are maps like WWI and more deatiled WW2 maps. It also has a lot of patches that you cen get that are cool. I don't know if you can still get it though, because, like us, they have had trouble with hasbro, who owns Avalon Hill.

12.5% chance for that outcome, not that unlikely. ;)

I had one that was pretty bad too though. I attacked a country with a bunch of units and his 7 defending units (4 tanks, 1 fighter and 2 bombers) scored 7 kills.
His expected kills was 2.15

hey, how do you get that window which lines up attacking units on one side and defenders on the other? I got it once and can't display it now. I keep double-clicking, but nothing works. anybody know? thanks./

I used to really love the original board game of Axis & Allies. I remember taking over an hour just to set it up. The game itself would then last all weekend.

I'll have to give this one a go :)

You should click on it's listing in the "replay" window. That is the one you are looking for right?

The drops can certainly be weird... just started a new game
and my income is 82, the other guys get 63 and 55.
Yea me!

I suppose this balances out my slimmer beginnings as I've
gotten the short end of the stick a few times too.

 wow! let us know how that game goes.

my suggestion...(for what it's worth). other than accumulating cash, which you obviously need to do...just start building troops. hmmm, on second thought maybe I should rename this idea from "suggestion" to "glaringly obvious." :-)

has anyone got some spaces together which are separated from other players by sea spaces? that might be the best starting point in a game like this. if Hawaii had more points, your position might be a better one.

actually that's a design flaw. if the game is gonna stick you with one space, the least they could do is give you 10 points per turn for it. that would make the game more interesting too.

That's why I've started concentrating on playing ONLY three forms of the game:

1) The "real" Axis & Allies setup.
2) Head-to-head games on whatever map.
3) Massive 12-player pick-your-own-territories games.

I don't play any other games any more.

By the way, I started a thread some time ago in their SUGGESTIONS forum to try to rectify this particular problem - so go support it!
