Based on sales numbers, the Wii is far and away the biggest success of this generation of consoles.
Last I heard, and that was in the middle of 2009, Wii had sold approx 50 million units, Xbox 360 about 25 million, and PS3 about 22 million.
The PS3 was designed to last for a 10 year cycle, since consumers have voiced their displeasure with having to shell out several hundred dollars every 5 years just to keep up. Xbox has some serious flaws in it's design (any surprise that Microsoft produced the product that breaks the most? [red ring of death]) but I'm pretty sure they've cornered the market on the online gaming thing and have done so rather brilliantly.
So this poll is interesting to me. I suppose most people voted for what console they own.
And now with Netflix streaming right into the Xbox, Microsoft is doing a good job of turning the Xbox into the one-stop entertainment device they hoped to fashion. Granted, it doesn't play blue-ray, and PS3 does, but I think Microsoft has more foresight in recognizing the market in downloadable content, be that movies or games, and they seem to be doing very well.
As for having a group of friends over, the Wii still reigns supreme, since even girls like to play.
