If the air is darkened, you can be assured you will not see the sky or the moon. Likewise, if the sky is darkened, you will not see the air or moon. Obviously the smoke from the "bottomless pit" will block out the sun, moon, sky and air. Now, stop wasting time and make sure your flashlight has new batteries in it! ;)

Maybe they are just referring to wild fires/bush fires, which are pretty scary. It does darken the sky, and there's lots of smoke as the amount it burns could be a bottomless 'pit'.

Yeah, we can both play straw men.

I had feared this thread was a parody of the patently ridiculous Obama/sovereignty thread. How gratifying to find serious support for the sky-will-fall position here. Only sorry I did not get a chance to post before the debate was over.

I posted about the sky falling! It went largely unnoticed. :)

My comment that the "debate is over" was just me being sucked into the apparently en-vogue trend.

Sorry, I might not fully believe in God, but I surely believe a God of Good would have set up a system infinitely more fair than that. The one you've described too much resembles some man-concocted rules to exert power over people.

And, clearly by the debate is over, you mean, youve made up and closed your mind to all other possibilities no matter what. That doesnt end the debate...just your chance at possible enlightenment...and once again...I know enough about God to know if hes actually there, your actions will matter far more than your petty thanks and offerings. Jesus himself only cared about people treating other people well...whether they believed in him or not. Ill go out on a limb and bet they dont care squat about suck ups.

For a God of Good, with no ego or human weaknesses to only care about being accepted as his main requisite for entry into his kingdom, means he is not really a god of good, or your idea of his wishes have been somewhat misrepresented and interpreted. Now the debate on that is over. Thats simple logic.

God is good. What you or I deem the definition of "good" is irrelevant. You can't put God in a nice little box consisting of what you think He should be. If you want to know God and His goodness, you can. Read up on him via the Bible.

"Jesus himself only cared about people treating other people well...whether they believed in him or not." I'd have to disagree here. Our deeds are like filthy rags in the sight of God. To love one another is the GREATEST commandment, not the ONLY commandment.

The debate is over....

If we "can't put god in a nice little box of what we think he should be" what gives that right to priests, ministers, etc?

I presume this is exactly why God is no respecter of religion. They all have their flaws in regard to how they view God. Religion is man made.... therefore, flawed from the start. ;) Stick to Gods word and any "church" that preaches it. =D>

So if all the religions have their flaws, how will I know "gods word" when I hear it coming from the mouth of a person?

All this religion stuff confuses me. As a friend of mine said in a D&D game "Religion is not an exact science".

Always check to make sure whatever the preacher says lines up with Gods Word. (by studying it yourself)

But isn't the preachers words a matter of interpretation, so ultimately, I need to find a preacher that agrees with my interpretation of the scriptures?

Is that correct?

Im not putting him in a box, youre the one doing that, by preaching what he wants and doesnt want. God is described as good...as in good with the absence of evil...and I believe any God worth worshiping would have to be such a God. If you are saying that the bible actually describes him as a narcisistic egomaniac, and that is your belief than so be it, but it hardly ends the debate...only the thinking. It actually does make more sense with your view of the apocalypse though, so I understand your reluctance to think outside of your box.

Luckily, I am not constrained by any box created by strangers in some attempt to control me, and find it very easy to interpret the bible, and even easier the teachings of Jesus...and all I can say, looking at the body of your posts...is...and this is only my opinion...you are indeed outside of that box.

Again, I dont blame you. You will never know if you were wrong, so its the safer road to take anyways....unless of course if one of the other religions are correct...then not only have you worshiped the wrong god, but spent your entire life in blasphemy. Dont worry though, as I explained, no God of Good, could ever hold a mistake that is beyond your control like that against you. If there is judgment, it will be based on your actions, and not technicalities. Again...assuming God is worthy of being called God....and I for one have no proof of that.
I'm Spanking Monkey now....err...I mean I'm a Spanking Monkey now...that shoots milk

Enough of this unimportant back-and-forth nonsense about bringing forth Juniper berries from Juniper bushes, OH A MIRACLE!

I really want to find out about this sky issue. Is the sky that we've defined from our perception really a sky at all? If so, can it actually fall or is there nothing really there to fall onto us? Should we appeal to our local governments to begin a massive construction project to build very large support columns??
