Excellent point.

Again, there is a difference between giving space to a political op-ed show, and trying to pass one off as actual news.

Don't worry. I never expected the fringe lunatic demographic to understand. Hopefully, some of the more rational population will, though.

Wait...are you talking about fox or are you talking about msnbc, abc, cbs etc? Cause now I'm confused.

I believe I represent the more rational population. That being said, you're totally wrong here my man. CNN, MSNB, the New York Times, the Washington Post, etc. are just as politically motivated and corporate motivated (for lack of a better phrase) than Fox is. You just happen to think Fox is bunk because you don't agree with them (which is fine).

This is why when you point out that Fox is "run" by "corporate interests" and the Republican Party, I laughed hysterically. Because, while that may be true, there is no media organization in the United States that is not, in fact, "run" by "corporate interests" and at least one or more of the political parties. Simply put, you're either extremely naive or extremely partisan (I suspect the latter).

I personally find PBS to do a decent job of just the facts. Besides government-supported news, agreed on there being no non-corporate cable news, and such. The main difference I find with Fox, though, is that while you'll always find bias in editorial content (for what it's worth, I loathe Olbermann as much as O'Reilly. They're really the same person), Fox is the main network where the actual news reporting and (more importantly) deeming what is newsworthy seems as slanted. For instance, Fox breathlessly reported on the Tea Party marchers, while a gay rights march with the exact number of marchers went completely un-reported on (that was from the Daily Show although I'm pretty sure it's true)

Did MSNBC, NBC, CBS, or CNN report on the gay pride parade?

Also, please note that MSNBC, NBC, CBS and CNN all reported on the Tea Parties. Please note also that MSNBC and CNN specifcally aired entirely negative clips about these Tea Parties.

Again, I'm not the one saying Fox is fair and imbalanced; but the other networks aren't either (including Comedy Central), so let's all relax about this and realize that the White House going after a network sets a very dangerous precedent. For example, Obama-supporters, think about your reaction if President Bush's spokespersons spoke out against CNN and targeted that network specifically.

It seems I've struck a nerve with some of the more rabid posters here (surprise, surprise).

I'd have to say my favourite one so far was this

Elijah S wrote:So...lemme see... at the point I posted that there were several comments stereotyping conservatives as "paranoid sore losers" yet you have the nerve to call me a moron for throwing some of the same back in your face? Screw you!
Have you ever even sat down and watched Fox News with anything other than the typical Republican-bashing attitude? -My guess is no.

The old, "I saw someone else use a stereotype once, so it's okay for me to do constantly."

You didn't even argue any of the points I made - mainly that those who oppose Obama must be far-right racists.
The problem with little know-it-alls like you is that you want to paint BHO as some kind of savior - ignoring the facts that- A) His voting record in Congress consisted mainly of voting "present" rather than committing to any true decisions. B) He was involved in more scandals BEFORE being elected than the last 5 presidents combined. C) He not only attended a church that - in their own doctrine - pledges allegiance to the continent of Africa, but was also married and children Baptised by arguably one of the biggest racist on the planet, Jeremiah Wright. D) His involvement in Acorn - another racist organization - benefited his election with the votes of thousands of illegals who have no right to even cast a vote... The list goes on and on, but, by all means, go right ahead and continue to pretend that Obama is some kind of Godsend - it demonstrates who the real "moron" is.

I know the first part is technically a straw-man argument, but this last chunk takes the cake. If I didn't know better, I'd say you were trying to create the world's most flammable army here.

NONE OF ANY OF THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT WE'RE DISCUSSING HERE.

The whole racist/saviour bit, is something that I keep hearing people go on about, but it's ALWAYS in a "You guys all think these things" kind of way, and NEVER in a "You racists need to leave our saviour alone." kind of way.

As Americans, the heads of ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN and any other news agency should make public announcements disagreeing/condeming the White House.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak up for me....... :-s

I believe the answer to the first question is, Barely, but Yes.

I'd be totally down with CNN-hate. I hate them too. It just seems like they're trying a bit harder to not be hacks. Failing miserably, but trying.

I'll also say this - I personally think Fox is the worst of the bunch (MSNBC is a close second). I think in order to gain a full appreciation of the news, one should read, listen to, or watch as diverse a collection of news as possible. I don't think I'm a good example of this, by any means, but I try.

That is a wise policy , my point at this time is that we have not seen the wild inflation that some claimed would be the inevitable result of these actions.

I think that doesn't happen until marshal law is declared. Remember, if you're shitting your pants so is everyone else.

Bush was the antichrist and would declare martial law and be the last president of the US until Obama became president and it was clear to everyone that Bush was just put there to usher in Obama's endtimes.

So spending hundreds of billions of dollars that magically popped up out of nowhere is not going to have any effect what so ever, huh? Just like saying spending with your Mastercard to cover your Visa will fix everything, no problem. Fact is, that money is going to have to come from somewhere, as this is only going to be a temporary fix. Like putting a band aid on someone who has been drawn and quartered. This is not just a rant by a fringe radical right, but people from all over the political spectrum.

Wait. I don't understand. Are you tying the validity of your claims to those of the general consensus on global warming? ie. either they're both right, or they're both wrong.

So, if you believe your own views here, you believe the claims about global warming?

Or is it that if you don't believe in global warming, you also don't believe in yourself?

what a unique stance to take.

We have also not seen an increase in jobs (in fact, there has been a decrease... which is understandable). It's just too soon to tell. Regardless, I'm starting to think the economy will turn around soon, and when it does I'm 100% certain that the stimulus and bailout supporters will point to those programs as the reason. Even then it will be too hard to tell what exactly affected the economy in a positive way (private efforts or public efforts).
