Re: The Classic Map is being Revamped

Post by Mr Changsha »

I think they should remove shapes and art. I'd like to get all my classic games back under 1 stat. Already have a split on shapes (which includes the old classic game), then art, if we then add a third, then I am stuck with what is in all the essentials the same game split over three maps. It may be a 'nerd's opinion'..but you see if I care!

Beyond that, shapes has always looked like hell and art, to my mind, also looks like it was knocked up over a working lunch with a few good bottles of wine. Neither are anywhere near the quality the CC Community has come to expect.

Just to clarify, it is only Classic Shapes that is being revamped and replaced. Classic Art will remain alongside the new Classic - at least in the short term.

Seriously, why and on what basis? Once we have a decent classic back, what's the point of 'art'? It is bloody annoying for team games (assuming you and your team are not lovers of art history), looks like hell and, as it has the same gameplay as the 'new classic'...get rid of it!

Great to hear Shapes will be trashed and even better that Sully's map will be given such an exalted status. =D>

That definitely sucks. Take a look at the number games that have been played on shapes as opposed to art. Art loses, hands down. Leave shapes up.

Let the players decide, put all three up and let them run for 6 months. The two with the largest number of plays over that period, stay. Should be an interesting battle.

The comparison between shapes and art doesn't work because all of the Classic games got added as Classic shapes.

Comparing active games, there are 1915 games on Shapes and 517 games on Art.
Comparing waiting games, there are 211 games on Shapes and 81 games on Art.

So it does seem that Shapes is more popular than Art, but Shapes is also the default map which might have a strong effect on popularity. In any case, I would be fine with Shapes and Art staying live but that decision will be made by lackattack.

You see, world cities/new classic is exactly the same as shapes, just with better graphics. It has the same circles connected with line style. It just has different names and the continent in the background, so I don't see why you would possibly need shapes if you have it.

No, it is just getting a name change and will be put up as classic.

What is Easier for a student to learn on... Attack N5 to N4 or... Attack Novosibirsk to Chengdu The 2nd one will have them looking for about 3 minutes just to find the place.

Yes, shapes is definitely easier to teach on. We could have the contest between the maps by measuring the usage from the date the new map is introduced, thus avoiding legacy count.

I've had my eye on this map in the foundry for quite a while -- it looks great! A perfect replacement for classic.

Nice work. ;)

It's probably take me longer than that just to ask if I should attack from Novosibirsk to Chengdu

It's a long overdue and welcome sight to see a new Classic Map. Great work so far, my compliments to the mapmakers. This is the map CC is made of! =D>

The boundaries need to be thinner and sharper; and get rid of the clutter in the ocean. Just the facts, mam, just the facts. The flags only take up space and make the map smaller for play -- dump them.

The flags don't make the map smaller at all, considering the 630 px width limit is the limiting factor. The map already has a skewed perspective (it is slightly taller than it should be, to give more space to the land mass) so vertical constraints are definitely not a problem.

Please make your comments in the map thread itself though, so I can keep track of everyone's opinion in one place.
