The Classic Map is being Revamped

Post by MrBenn »

Ahoy, Fellow members of CC!

For those of us who have been here some time, the loss of the Classic Map was a sad day. The invasion of the Shapes was something that not even HG Wells or Arthur Clark had foreseen. From the pit of despondency, an elite squad of mapmakers were thrown together to assemble a replacement, and thus Classic Art was born! (Although Turtle World was almost a strong contender)

The time has finally come for Classic Shapes to be reinvigorated and be given the facelift it so strongly deserves and needs. The mapmaking elite - in consultation with the foundry moderators and lackattack himself - have given the green light for the map-formerly-known-as-world-cities to be revamped as the New Classic Map.

There is still a little bit of work to be done before the Revamped Classic will emerge from the Foundry Forge - please feel free to head over and add your support or thoughts while we hammer things out. in the meantime, let us take a trip down memory lane and embrace the future:

Edit: Just to clarify, it is only Classic Shapes that is being revamped and replaced. Classic Art will remain alongside the new Classic - at least in the short term.

I'm glad that we will have a true classic map, but, is world cities going to be trashed? I thought that it was a good map; I don't see why we can't have multiple maps with different visual looks but essentially the same gameplay.

I always thought that USA was basically a classic map.

Congrats to everyone working on this map to get it as close as possible to classic w/o breaking any copyrights!

There are far more players on shapes than art. I say keep all three.

That's because all the pre-shapes games are classified as Classic Shapes - if you look at post-shapes games, I think there's more on Classic Art...

Man that was a long 24 hours, and easily the best (and then one of my worst) memories in the last 7 years of working with communities. It was an honour to work with you gents (those who read this), and sully, this is definitely a strong replacement.

It looks awesome!

(Oh boy it's odd to be posting in the forum again! )

Finally glad to see a chance for a replacement that looks like it could be welcomed by the Community---and hopefully bring in new Conquer Club users as well. :)

Keep up the work folks. And always remember, go to the Foundry and get your voice heard. If you don't comment, participate, or at a minimum actively read, you may not end up with the desired output you want!

Actually, we teach on the shapes map and play a ton of games on it at SOC -- if we could keep it for teaching, it would be helpful.

I agree keep all 3... It works very well with the 2 now. This one will take top spot, but the other should be kept. I am just getting to know all the names on Classic Art!
