Upper right 2 points clicky
So what is this thing?
My guess a way to collect email addresses and sell your contact information.
They get money, you get an email address you no longer want to use.

Reddit is a reputable website and I'm pretty sure they're not selling your data. In fact, they don't even require an email address.
I updated the alert to mention that you need to register, to avoid any confusion...

If you send me your credit card numbers I'll make sure no one gets your info.

Reddit is totally harmless and run by Wired. I have been a member there for years and haven't received an single email.

Of course, they just sent your email to others and/or collect data on whatever forms you fill for them and forward it to others. Otherwise, they wouldn't have much to gain for providing such services, would they? Just a bunch of nice guys, right? Right.
I tried registering with some meaningless name, and after exactly typing in the words that appeared in the box for about 3 times, it told me that I'm blind, so try again. I gave up. Sorry CC for this tremendous let down; I hope y'all will recover soon.
Re: Upper right 2 points clicky
You do not have to put in an email address. To register, all you have to do is make up a user ID and password. You do not have to give any real info.

Re: Upper right 2 points clicky
Well one of you guys is lying.
Re: Upper right 2 points clicky
Seriously? People are bitching about having to surrender a already optional email address? Really? What is this, 1999, and email addresses were big deals? I have like 6! Just register at gmail for a free account, and then you have 1 more email you can use for junk sites. Having to register an email is nothing these days; almost every site requires it for new account activations. You guys are just looking for something to complain about.
A mindless philosopher.
Re: Upper right 2 points clicky
The form asks for an ID and Password. There is an optional space for email (says Optional) which you can just leave blank.
On the flip-side, there is no verification. So anyone can just log-out make up a new ID and psswd, and vote again. I think this is what's happening. There have been about 400 positive votes so far, and by remarkable coincidence there have been almost exactly the same amount of negative votes, so the overall is hovering around 35 (despite about 800 votes total). I think someone who's pissed about something is cancelling out the positive votes. What else explains 400 people taking the time to do this just to give a negative vote?
It is weird how negative people on this site can get. Despite any issues we may have, we're here because we want to be. No one is forcing us to come to CC. Why not help out when they do these recruitment things to bring in new players and keep the site strong?

if you read alot of the comments, alot of it is from reddit users that view the post, and the fact that there is a link on here as 'spamming' so i think some of the backlash at least is coming from reddit users.. not that there probably arent a good bit of bad apples from here doing some things....

Ah, you're probably right. Good to hear it's at least coming from somewhere else.
Re: Upper right 2 points clicky
Well, I suppose they can get your IP address, unless of course you use a proxy
