Did you consider that fact that much of the world isn't stable enough to have a system in place to properly catch criminals? Or that the United States offers the closest thing to true freedom that is possible while still having a stable government, which means that people here have the choice to do what they want? A lot of them choose to commit crimes, and they get caught. If 3rd world countries were identical to the way they are now, except with a justice system like the one the U.S. has, do you really think that they would have (relatively) fewer prisoners? My point was that the U.S. shouldn't have the highest incarceration rates, because most of the worlds population is in developing or underdeveloped countries, and as such there are far more criminals who aren't caught there.

I'm not sure that you understand what he was saying. He was referring to the average for developed nations, not the next five on the list. You'd still be wrong anyway, of course. Looking at the stats, and assuming that every nation is a developed nation (to give you an advantage), then number five on the list after the US is Belize with 487 prisoners per 100,000 people. The US being around 738 per the same. Sure, it's not double, but "not even close" is pretty innacurate.

Biased opinion? I don't think its biased to say that something is wrong in American culture which leads to the extremely high incarceration rate. Its fairly straight forward Criminology. If its not a sick society, what do you believe are the causes of the huge number of criminals within the USA compared to those in other developed nations.
