Arms Race! Tips
So I just got completely destroyed on Arms Race.
Anybody have any tips so I can avoid another complete shellacking?
(for the record I have read the Strategy Guide on it)

Re: Arms Race! Tips
The Arms Race! board is one of the best on this site.
Most games on this map are with fog of war on.
In any event, it seems to me that you have to move fast in that game. Everyone is moving fast.
Just keep building, expanding; until you own the USA or USSR. Then try to get to the warhead first.
Sometimes you might take the warhead before you've secured the president and launch code. In a single game win out of 24 attempts, I knocked out all of the Soviets out from the USA missile, then went on to secure the rest of the USA map.
You want to avoid being trapped in the missile. Whether you're attacking up the missile or not, always maintain position on either the USA or USSR proper.
I'm not sure what the best strategy is regarding trying to survive in both the USA and USSR. It seems that in most games, someone grabs all of one or the other, then shellacks the other side through the warhead.
The Presidents and Launch Code territories are the best, but they are vulnerable to bombardment from the Spy territorties on the opposing side of the map. (USSR Spy to USA targets and vice versa)
The Bunker territories build a lot of troops, but they're dropped right on the bunker.
The Uranium and Scientists are good; +1 to your deployable stack of troops. The Scientists can be bombarded by Spys; the Uranium are free of Spy bombardment.
Early in the game, if you capture the president or launch code, put extra armies on it so it's not an easy target for a Spy. These 2 - the President and Launch Code - are the best army-producing territories on the board. Maybe defend the scientists to some extent if you capture one or more of those.
If you take a Bunker first, your play might be a tad slower because of the drop of 2 on the bunker (as opposed to a free drop as with the Uranium, Scientist, President, and Launch Code).
When you have taken half the board - USSR or USA - fortify these two territories; the President and the Launch Code. When you capture the warhead you get +50 troops.

H
Just wondering why anyone would go for the missile unless they ha to.
Isn't it easier to take one continent then gradually take your opponent out of the other side?

Yeah but it's your only option if you both control one side

arm's race! strategy
what do you guys think of this strategy -> 2 players on a side and one alone on the other, if the 2 players on the same side don't work together they're more likely to lose the game.
so if one of the 2 is up the missile and break the missile launch, he miss a turn on is next turn to make sure the other one can go trough a 1 instead to have to break 15 neutrals
for myself i think it's a really good strategy, some think it's not ( got foed because of that ) but if not the 2 players on the same side both lose and with this tactic they have a chance to win !

Works for me too.

It's also pure genius. Once you've read it, you will automatically be a bona-fide Arms Race magician

Re: The Official Arms Race! Strategy Guide.
I'm sorry to bump an old thread, but before I play on this map, I'd like to know: Can a player fortify to a BUNKER from anywhere in the same "country" (USA/USSR) even if the game is set to "adjacent"?

No. The Bunkers hold no exceptions in any forting setting.

You answered quicker than I could edit my post.
My next question was, can a bunker be attacked? Or >ONLY< fortified to?

Yep, it's just like any ordinary territory, except it has 2 armies added to it if owned by a player.

gdeangel wrote:Well, the new arm's race map has been getting quite a bit of buzz and is quite the rage. So after reading this thread, I decided to try it out. Two games and 70 +/- points later, I'm letting you have the real scoop. This map is an "equalizer" map. It is all dice and very little skill. It is great if you can average out against other players over many games, but if you play 1v1 pick up games, be prepared to take a beating. ...
I play 1v1 standard arms race against all comers and have picked up a few points from it.
