Classic map

Post by schmoozeinc »

i would pay another $20 a year to be able to play the original risk.
tried playing the board game last night and it was a disaster. took forever. no stratagy, diplomacy or skill. for somereason everyone needed and im still finding black cannons with my bare feet.
seems to me that cc could swing some kind of franchise from hasbro.
We're doing crazy shit with food.

yes owen, here we go again. some things will NEVER die. C.C. should do whatever it takes to bring back the classic map, if that means getting our resident monkey to take our resident turtle over to hasbro for a meeting, lets get it done!

I'm with schmoozeinc, i have said b4 that i would be happy to pay more to get the classic map back, i will see schmoozeinc's extra $20 and raise it another $60, thats an even hundo i would be willing to pay to get the classic map back, thats still less than $2 a week., I spend more on porn. and since i joined this site i no longer gamble online, therefore, this site saves me money.

I even suggested b4 that C.C. create an ultra-premium account system where those willing to pay more to bring back the classic map could do so. and those not willing to pay more for this site would not have to.

I think that CC is still to small for hasbro to bother. I think if cc offered some kind of deal like that it would not be worth hasbro's time. CC makes a few hundred thousand a year. Hasbro had 4 billion in revenue last year, 300 million of that was profit. Even if CC could pony up $100,000, it would to pay for the rights, that amount would get round off in there quarterly earnings. It would be like if you own a restaurant that grosses $20,000 dollars a week, and some kid came up to you and offered you 14 cents to put the restaurants name on his candy machine. It wouldn't be worth the 10 second conversation.

but hey, azezzo is willing to pony up whatever it takes to get this done... i'm sure if you break that down into the few people that want to pay extra for a map that they can then ONLY play against others paying for it, it would only be about 30-50K per person, per year... but hey, it is worth it, and azezzo is willing to pay whatever it takes...-0

whatever it takes is too much for me, im pretty sure that control of their intellectual property is priceless to them... we have 2 classic-style maps, i dont see whats wrong with them?

Hasbro is pretty litigious... anyone remember Scrabulous?

i think the best bet is to have some sort of back door greasemoneky script that replaces a current map with something else, i dunno.

I'm okay with the current Classic Art map...

although it would be nice if someone wrote a greasemonkey script that would display different names.
It could be anything, as long as you could instantly identify the place from the name.

But if there was to be a change, i would prefer to see the starting deployment gameplay change.
Try playing a real game of RISK with your friends and see how different it is placing your armies vs CC's autodeployment of 3 per territory. The strategy unfolds entirely differently. lol... this is what our confident CC players first discovered when they played at the International RISK Tournament.

scrabulous got dusted by hasbro. that site was amazing, and the 4 player games with friends were epic!! it is a mere shell of it's former self, and it is sad. however, they only had ONE BOARD, an exact copy of the scrabble board. and as far as a greasemonkey, that is the perfect solution, but it would have to be available off the site to prevent lack/CC from getting lawyered to death...-0

I'm completely sure that there is a way to achieve a kind of "classic map" with intelligence and saving money, for the site and for the users. Just take world 2.1. (that map has to be legal, otherwise would not exist). merged some regions. Keep some important countries, as japan, germany, mexico. The bigger ones keep it splited, and mantain the Toponymy as real and simple as possible. It doesn't have to be the same gameplay. We just want a map to play this "risk-like" game, where you can attack from regions, dice bassed, with factual continents and countries that exist in real world. I don't see the big issue. Call this map, World 1.0. or Battle of the world or Battle of empires or world 21 century or anything that doesn't resembles anything from hasbro. And that's it..

um, that is a really good idea. you should go to the foundry or suggs/bugs with this. really great idea... world 3.0 or whatever... sweet.-0

I personally would rather not have a classic map at all then run the risk of losing Conquer Club altogether. There are two maps with identical gameplay, which is really what this game is about, not the image behind the numbers in my opinion. Of course, there are some rather beautiful maps out there, don't get me wrong.

I thought it would be nice if someone who was up to date on their Greasemonkey script creating skills could put together a script that could replace this image with some colored shapes on it with the old Classic map. But unfortunately, knowing lack and the other admins, this will not be allowed.

I thought it was took down as a precaution, to lessen the risk that ConquerClub would run into trouble later on. And even if lack has spoken face to face with Hasbro faculty, wouldn't he let his website's community know about it so they can calm down and stop trying to think up solutions to help out his site?

not if there were lawyers involved, lawyers would demand that the information not be made public.. especially when such a large company as hasbro is involved...

of course this should be common sense...

Why is this common sense? I do not know this, there is no need to speak negatively about someone else asking a question about a matter they don't know about. And nobody even said anything about lawyers anyways.

And also, in agreement with Robinette, an option for a more Risk related deployment stage could be interesting.
