Whatever font you choose, if you choose one, can you put that font on the "London and New York connect to each other"? Looks ugly atm, seems lik Arial font.

Since pretty much all the fonts are good in their own way why can't you just keep a different font for each zone bonus? This helps make the distinction between bonus areas a little more prominent since you only have region name colours as distinction. Using only region names as your bonus colour cordinator can be rather difficult to achieve distinction, you have done it excellently here sully but using different font may just make that distinction a little greater.
Also its good form to have the page number of your last update in the thread title, makes it easiler for the avarge user to check the latest update and read up on the latest discussionm you don't mind putting it in do you sully?
One of the nicest new maps in a while sully, keep at it.

That might be a big help for the colour blind. Frankly, the differences between some of these fonts can be pretty small in my eyes. The use of true upper/lower case vs. large/small caps is more obvious to me. If you changed Sub-Saharan Africa to use true upper/lower case, then I think you would have a change between these two styles everywhere you cross from one zone to another, which would emphasise these boundaries further.
Re: World Cities [D] (V12, 5/29/09)
sorry if this was suggested (i will be honest and say that i havent read all 17 pages) but why not put Dubai in there?
surely it should be a world city if not more so than some of the other in there

I agree.
Whether you add Dubai or not, I think another connection between 'eastern europe' and 'india' would is needed. Either Istanbul <> Delhi, Cairo <> Mumbai, Cairo <> Dubai <> Mumbai, or some combination of those.
Great looking map!
Re: World Cities [D] (V12, 5/29/09)
if you add Dubai you could also connect it to Delhi, Mumbai, Cairo, Istanbul, or Volgograd or some combination of those.

I think the point of this map, unless I'm mistaken, is that it exactly matches classic gameplay. Adding in connections would change that.
Dubai WAS in the earlier versions, but it was dropped. Looking at how it was connected in the earlier versions, I can see why, it doesn't fit into the geography properly.
If the idea to make this a "classic" map is dropped, then I could see a return for Dubai, but otherwise you'd have to cut another city to make room.

this doesnt have classic gameplay tho

I just checked, it definitely does.
South America takes the place of the old Australia, North America replaces Asia, etc.

But it's not 100% the same, so we can still discuss the connections …

the connections are identical at the moment. the number of terts is identical. changing connections would make it less like the shapes and art that we all love

A) avoid copyright blah blah blah
2) make it a new map not just another remake

sully, can you some how make buenos aires and auckland connect?
this would make it a wince different and creative, this way both bonus's worth 2 each have 2 lands to defend, it would make it almost the perfect balance.
and excellent work with this sully, robinette will love you

Re: World Cities [D] (V12, 5/29/09)
Connecting Buenoes Aires would indeed make SA harder to defend. I argue that it would be TOO hard. In the classic map, australia is easy to defend but it is hard to expand into Asia because Asia is a wasteland. SA is a little bit harder to defend, but it is much easier to expand and hold NA or more rarely Africa. If you want to balance out the classic map you have to be more subtle than that. But for now, the current gameplay will stay. Sorry for the lack of updates, I'm waiting for some info that is beyond my control right now. But thanks for the compliments and the continued compliments, I'm glad to see most people like the map!

Sully, i'm with Blitz here on this one. Just stating my opinion but (Bogota is a virtual bottleneck); as i understand that you may have already decided.
Anyway, good work and i'd definintely like to play this one if the southern hemisphere was more interconnected.

Re: World Cities [D] (V12, 5/29/09)
I think it is a good idea to keep the gameplay exactly like the Classic Maps. I believe that there are many players who like playing the original game, but would like something nicer to look at and/or something that seems more related to the concept of world domination than figures from the world of art or the "Lucky Charms" shapes.

Re: World Cities [D] (V12, 5/29/09)
Hey all, I'm back in business it looks like. Sorry for the delay.
Dubai was actually one of the first cities I thought of when I had the map idea. I had this hairbrained scheme of including a small version of the skyline of each city, and I thought dubai would be great to include. Of course there is no room on the map for such fantasies. Dubai was removed because it was at the juncture of 3 continents, and it's alliance was somewhat ambiguous. Additionally, Dubai is a great tourist destination but still relatively small in population (I guess the same is true for Las Vegas). Dubai will certainly be a world city of the future, but I think Delhi is better established and fits better graphically.
Many of you seem to understand the gameplay I am trying to achieve. The map has been deemed okay in terms of copyright because all of my bonus regions and territory distributions are unique. You may now understand why I am reluctant to change connections, because I think the current version is quite balanced. There are many places where you CAN add connections, because the cities are close to one another. Those connections are left out for gameplay considerations, because to hold continents you need to have some bottlenecks and some regions which are easy to defend.
On that note, I decided to play with the XML and it wasn't too hard to create! I still just have the small version, but now I can show you images with numbers included.

Changes:
- I redrew all the continents, because I had some shadows/embossing that I had rasterized into the previous landmass. Hopefully this makes all the land appear more consistent at the edges. The change is subtle though, so I understand my work may have been for naught.
- The ocean gradient is now a bit darker on the outside
- New title, with just a skyline background and no globe. Still not satisfied but I think it's improving

yeah.. the title needs something done. I'm not even sure if that new one is an improvment..
I think something Simple and clean would be great..

point taken for dubai
also i find that the USA seems to be the Asia of classic, so incredibly large it may as well not be a bonus
think u should remove a city or two?

Also, I've managed to hold Asia in classic. It's rare but possible (and when you do you get a handsome bonus).
In this map, if you hold South America you can begin to expand into North America. Capturing both continents is difficult by design, since it is relatively easy to capture and hold South America. On rare occasions though I player will be able to expand to hold both Americas at once. This is made slightly easier since you can do it with only 3 borders (NY, Honolulu and Tokyo). The fact that taking Tokyo simplifies the North American borders is nice because it forces so interaction between players, instead of sitting and building.
