Why do noobs, Pvts, and Sgts Join games w/high ranked people
Why do noobs join a game with 3 or four Captains or higher? I've never seen a noob win such a game. It's not that noobs aren't as good as them, but do they know what high ranked people see when there is a low ranked person in the game? They see a threat to their point total that they've worked hard to get. If the noob wins, the high ranking people will lose a bundle, so they make sure that doesn't happen. They will make sure the noob does not win. If you don't have at least 3 stripes by your name, and you join a game with 3 Captains or higher, you are a dead man before the game has even begun, so why do they do it? I don't get it.

I take the opposite approach, I tend to try to kill the higher ranked guys and keep the low ranked guy around since hes less likely to play optimally when we're down to a few people giving me a higher chance of winning. Then again, I play to win not for points.
Here is a question for you, why do you play in public games if you dont want to play with low ranked players? It's very easy to start private games or join private games. If you are going to try to ruin the game for the low ranked guys and care about points so much you probably shouldn't be joining or starting public games to begin with.

I start 3 person games, cause if a coouple of noobs join, it's easy pts. If high ranked players join, it's a chance for alot of pts. I only join games with high ranked players, or I'll join last, if it's a bunch of noobs. If you don't play for points, it's probably cause you suck.

I don't join games based on the points, nor do I make my strategies to get more points. Though I care about my points.

lol...You have a whopping 1650 points in 560 games while playing for points and you think i suck?
You have never once beaten me, including playing triples with the #1 player on the site while I had a sargeant, and you think I suck?
You are pretty ignorant.
I don't play for points because there is no enjoyment to me in amassing points. There is enjoyment in playing and trying to win, and experiencing the highs and lows of a thrilling game. I play for fun.
If low ranked players are such "easy points" then why would you complain about them joining your games? And why would you ruin the game for them simply for the sake of protecting your points? How would you feel if someone just suicided on you because your point total is so low? [/quote]

and its because he purposely takes points from noobs.

I never look at the points till the end - when I was a private I had one high rank sacrifice himself to allow another rank to win the game rather than me (that was irritating!!). His net gain was 10 points over if I had won. So no fear from here if lower ranks join
Tals
Little note: The ONLY person that is keeping track of your points is YOU! Nobody cares, the government isn't going to contact you and beg you to fill in a strategist position. Basically, you think WAY too hard about points.
Play the f'n game well and it'll show. Will it win you a prize? No...

Ukraine is not game! You no say Ukraine is weak! How abouta I take your stupid game and I SMASH it!
Well since low ranked players can be just as good as higher ranked (depending on how many games played ie loads of games with low score = is a less good player but few games with a reasonable score = gud player
Low ranks would join high ranks cos they will have a fair chance of winning, the high ranks will aim at each other more and the lower rank wins way more points and risks less to loose
The Q is why do you play with lower ranks

Have you ever thought that lower ranks(LRs) might just want to learn how to play better from higher ranks(HRs) who are in the know?
And besides, LRs would only lose a couple of points. So, there's nothing much to lose and would definitely, stand to gain a lot from the experience by observing HRs going through their motions.

Has everyone lost their damn mind. This thread was not meant to be inflammatory, or piss anyone off. For the record, I said not one word about "being hot shit on the scoreboard" My highest ranking so far has only been 101st place. My only question is why would a noob join a four person game, if the first 3 guys are majors. Doesn't make sense to me. And why is every on e accusing me of being a chicken. Most of my games are against high ranking opponents. On the contrary, most people of my rank will not join a game with nothing but noobs, cause they stand to lose alot if they don't win. I'll play with noobs. I'll play with Generals. I prefer to play other Majors.
This thread is about why a noob would join a game in which every single other player is highly ranked. When I was a noob, I didn't do that. I knew if i did, everyone else would gang up on me. I would like someone to show me a link to a game played RECENTLY, where a noob beat at least 3 Captains or better in a Standard, sequential game of at least four people. I don't mean a noob winning a six person game in which there were 3 noobs, and 3 Captains either. I mean a four person game, or better, in which every person but one was a Cptain or higher, and a noob beat them all. For that to happen, the noob would need one hell of a drop.

Who said YOU sucked. You're a colonel, so you obviously don't suck. I said people who don't play for pts suck. You obviously do, or you wouldn't be a colonel. I can prove you play for pts, cause everyone of your rank has to to maintain it. If you are playing in a game you can't possibly win, then you almost certainly do what you can to make sure the highest ranking person that can win does win, cause it cost you less pts. I have done this. When it is apparent I can't win no matter how good my strategy is, I focus the rest of my remaing attacks on the lowest ranking person.

To give 2 cents from a newb:
It is hard enough trying to work out the rest of this game without looking at ranks and points. It will come slowly, but until that time, I'm gonna be spending a lot of time guessing and hoping what I have done isnt gonna get my ass kicked. So lay off the newbs, if you're worried about losing to them, then you probabaly need the practice against them. if you're not, good on ya. think of it as a fun game...

Wow, I love the assumptions that you make
So you think that because you resort to the tactics listed above that everyone above you must do it as well to maintain their higher score? I know of many very high ranked players who think it is wrong to suicide and ruin a game just to lose a few less points. dabooz said specifically that he plays to win and for fun, so I doubt he is the type that ruins a game by trying to save a point or two.
That is the difference between playing to win and playing to maintain points. There are plenty of people who only play to win and they simply have a high score because they win a lot.
Also, as per your original question the answer is quite easy. low ranked players are willing to join with high ranked players because the potential points they can win is extremely high and the points they can lose is low. Yes, their chances of winning are also lower, but for many the risk is worth the gain. Also, as stated, playing with good players can be a valuable learning experience or simply a more enjoyable game (not necessarily true though of course).
