not sure how a feel about the whole 'seige of tar valon' thing, especially if you're going to include siege towers and the like. I need to reread the last couple books to refresh my memory (on number 8 now...) but i don't think any real fighting has been involved in the rebel siege, and i have a feeling that the whole thing is going to be resolved without any bloodshed just in time for the last battle. if you wanna do a TV map go ahead, but no need to make it a siege map (unless you wanted to go back and do Artur Hawkwing's siege...)

the Ways should be used as a way to get around. you could give each entrance a 5 neutral on it that returns every round to represent the difficulty of getting through them and Machin Shin or however you spell it

Which itself is a territory, but one that has an auto "bonus" of -3, because it's so dangerous (and because blocking the Ways is too powerful :D).

One other thing, this would be classes as 'fan art' and hence doesn't have any copyright issues...

Go for it!

Certain. One restriction though, You can't sue Tor or Branden if they make a similar image some time in the future.

Sounds good to me. As far as I'm concerned, they're free to use the map whatever way they want.

Warning: Crazy idea

To make it really cool (and maybe a bit more confusing) we could add Tel'aran'rhiod as a secondary set of territories which can:
1 - attack other bordering Tel'aran'rhiod territories
2 - bombard the corresponding physical territory

They would only be attackable from a few physical locations. (White tower for one)

Note: not really expecting this to be incorporated..

I don't like the tel'aran'rhiod idea suggested with the capability to bombard the real world. Remember, in the books objects in tel'aran'rhiod could be affected (though only slightly) by objects in the waking world, but people could only be in the world of dreams when sleeping. Things moved around a lot in the waking world tend to not be very constant in tel'aran'rhiod. However, moving things in the world of dreams has no effect on the waking world, except to garner information. Although death there is the same as death in the waking world, one cannot kill someone who is not in tel'aran'rhiod. Trust me. I've read the books three times, and i'm up to Winter's Heart for my 4th time through. I know what i'm talking about... 8-) and i'm such a stickler for accuracy that i looked up how to spell tel'aran'rhiod in The Shadow Rising to make sure i got it right... gosh i'm such a :geek: ... If whoever's doing this map needs information on the world of The Wheel of Time I'd love to help, i'm just a little bit of a fan..... :D love those books... Only authors i like reading more are Orson Scott Card and Timothy Zahn, and it's so close between those three i shouldn't even say that out loud... In fact, i don't have a whole lot of time that i'm on here, or any experience making maps, but if no one else is gonna do this map i'll take a crack at it.

I agree! But I would LOVE to see if you could work the Ways in there! I'm thinking you'd lose troops in the ways, but they would provide mobility.

hmm... actually, I'm thinking a terit called "the Ways" that resets to, say, neutral three (at the end of the turn, Machin Shin kills any troops left in the ways, better get out fast!). The problem with that is it's a really powerful connection (there's a waygate at every Stedding and in every major Ogier built city, along with a few that have been swallowed in the Blight...) sounds like it would work like the subways of new york, a certain territ in each bonus region has a symbol that represents a waygate (two doors with a vine-like pattern?) on it, and each of those territs can attack "The Ways" and then "The Ways" can attack any territ with a waygate? that's still a little more spread for that territ than i'd like, but it does work very well with the story. Maybe there could be some way to close the waygate? i don't think it's possible with the current XML, but Rand did send Loial and an Asha'man out to do just that (if i'm right...)

I'm thinking a map in which each major nation is a bonus area, should be easy enough to take a guess at what the flags are like (the lion of Andor, the rising sun of Cairhein, etc.) I''m sure they're all mentioned at some point... though, i also note that the map has some places not claimed by any nation, or claimed by multiple nations (e.g. Almoth Plain) and i'm not sure what to do with those. The Waste would obviously be a bonus, though i'm not sure how to lay out all the tribes of Aiel, since we don't know how they're arrayed. I'd put all of the tribes in, i'm just not sure where... I'd also do the blight, but i'm not sure how to divide that. Perhaps make the blight non-playable? that would make the Borderland Kingdoms (sheinar, Saldea, Kandor, and Arafel) and the Aiel Waste into fairly limited-entry locations, which i like. I'd want some sea routes, possibly including Sea Folk ships as connecting terits, connecting major seaport towns (such as Tanchico and Ebou Dar) speaking of those two cities, include the Seanchan? i don't know how to do that, but maybe have their invading force off the shore of Tanchico and include Falme in their bonus region? and do we include something with the Aes Sedai of Salidar and their seige, or should we set it before that? Who's making this map? oh, and do we include Manetherin? I'm thinking no, since it overlaps with Andor and Murandy, and we don't know its exact borders.

it'd be nice, but I don't think it's going to be possible any time soon.

If this type of stuff is fan art then why the peoblems with a Middle Earth map? I've heard they had a couple and got all sorts of legal hassles out of it.

I think there is actually a LOTR themed game of RISK.
I know Tor's fan art policies, and the artist is stating straight out that it is fan art.
