Hello all and welcome to the ninth issue of the Conquer Club Newsletter!
Apologies for the late issue this week while i was on holidays, now that i have returned lets get down to the newsletter shall we? It has been relatively quiet in CC over the past few weeks following the staff shuffle. But the dust seems to have settled and everyone is getting back to enjoying the game, which is good to see.
With Summer just around the corner, the CC News Team has launched a Summer Graphics Competition that is open to all of the CC Community. For full details on the competition visit this thread.
According to [player]Optimus Prime[/player] the site's Operations Manager, TeamCC Nominations came in thick and fast from the community at large. A pile that he now must sift through and pick out the cream of the crop, here is what he had to say...
Optimus Prime wrote:Alright folks, I've got a massive pile of names to sift through, so the time has come to close the nominations period. Looks like there are some really promising folks in my pile, so keep your eyes peeled. Sometime in the not too terribly distant future we are likely to start seeing some new faces with colored names.
Thanks for the help!
Regards, OP
So stay tuned i guess...
We will soon see a new Brazil map to replace the current, see Foundry News for more info.
We hope you enjoy this issue

Conquer Club Tournament Stats
The new Conquer Club API was released on 14 May 2009 and in few days [player]chipv[/player] give us a new useful toy!
The tool produces stats about a tournament, so you can collect the informations you need more easily and quickly.
When installed it could be used in the Game Finder page and currently it is splitted in two main sections:
- - Summary: In this section are displayed players, games played , wins , losses, eliminations and active games.
- Results: Here are listed all finished games, map name and who won and who lost the games.

Alo again. More down time in the Foundry, map-wise. We really appreciate your comments, so go git some comments in! This might be the smallest issue yet, as we only have one map to write about and not really any news

Brazil REVAMP — Maker: [player]RjBeals[/player] XML: [player]Optimus Prime[/player]
- After winning the much-advertised and highly known revamp, RjBeals teamed up with XML'er (and admin!) Optimus Prime to finish of this beauty that will replace the current, uh, not-so-great looking Brazil map by [player]Marvaddin[/player] in 2006. After winning the competition, RJ went through some trouble as Marv used his "super-veto" powers to get rid of some tilt that RJ had put on his winning entry, sending a wave of anti-mapping sentiments through him. But after a long haul, the map was completed to the enjoyment of all, and we hope to see this live soon!

Foundry Newsletter: Issue #20
Greetings,
Another issue is upon us. We've got a full issue here, with three maps arising from the recycling bin after long vacations. In addition we've got your favorite column with WCA's latest challenge, and we all think you'll get a kick out of it. Sadly no Editorial this issue, school got in the way of our intended writer, so look for it next issue. Of course we've got A Look Back and Spotlight, covering Tisha's Puget Sound and Sully's up-and-coming World Cities. And finally our Community Perspective, with the proof that nobody likes reading what I'm typing right now. Just let me know if I should just cut this portion out already.
Hope you enjoy the issue,
TaCktiX
Senior Editor
That's right, another issue of the newsletter where you can see what's up with all things mapping, read interviews and compete in other graphic competitions is up! We hope you enjoy it

A big rivalry is starting to form between The Horseman of the Apocalypse (THOTA) and Legends of War(LOW). THOTA now leads the Clan League, while LOW maintains the top spot on the Clan Ladder. To add to that mix, they are also facing off in a clan war as well in a very close battle, and also head to head in the league this week! Some great sportsmanship here.
In other news, a new clan ladder draft is circulating for comments and review, and is based more closely to College Sports RPI. Some good reviews so far and several players are reviewing calculations. There was concerns with the original (and still current) ladder that many newer clans were being placed on the ladder higher than they should, and that it was possible to get to number 1 without facing a top 10 clan. The draft version minimizes that ability as you will have to face stronger opponents in order to be ranked higher. Work should continue on the new ladder for a few more weeks before it is taken to the CLA for a vote.
In my Clan Director duties, I was approached this week by someone from the technical team and I am exploring some reporting functionality and other possibilities as well. Hopefully I will be able to report some results soon.
As always, you can find Clans who are recruiting here and you can see a list of all the clans and usergroups here.

[spoiler=Interview with lancehoch]Q: Hey lance
A: Hi samuel.
Q: How did you become a moderator?
A: It was almost a year ago now, I had received a PM from Twill saying that someone had put my name forward as a potential moderator and that they were considering it. About a week or two after that, I received another PM from Twill stating that I had been approved and my training would start shortly.
Q: What has been your favourite bust?
A: I don't know if I have a favorite, but I do have three highlights. I do not know how much of the details I can give out, but here they are:
- One user was making a lot of multis over a relatively short period of time. Most of the time there was not a hunter on to catch them and they joined a few games and posted. One of the accounts, I busted in under three minutes. At the time, that was the fastest time between account creation and bust that I had ever seen.
- The very large bust about a week or two ago of 20 accounts. It wound up that the associated busts all linked back to one account and there are now over 150 accounts associated with that main account.
- In the last week, another user has been creating many accounts. I busted one of them in one minute and a half.
Q: What is the best part of the job and what is the worst part?
A: The best part is knowing that I am helping keep the games clean and keeping people honest. The worst part may be the times when I question myself. There was a point a few months ago when I was very unsure of myself in the forums. I had received nasty PMs from two or three members in about two or three days and I was questioning all of my actions. Then there was the smokespride/olkok incident. I don't think I busted any accounts for a week after that because I was questioning myself and convincing myself that I wasn't 100% positive about the busts. The good does outweigh the bad though. I am glad to be hunting and moderating and I would definitely do it again if given the choice.
Q: Who is a better cheating/abuse hunter? JR or Lancehoch?
A: Well, this is a tough question. All of the accounts that JR has found, are not attributed to him, they are attributed to the different hunters that actually pushed the buttons. So, it is hard to tell. He has been around for a lot longer, although I don't believe that he ever got 20 accounts at one time.
Q: Can you give an idea of how you and KA keep 22,000 people in check?
A: Well, it is not just KA and myself. Andy does help with some of the etickets. But, I think a lot of people realize that there are a few factors to consider. 1) What is the point in trying to cheat the system, even if you don't get caught? It is not fun, yeah, you might be able to get to the top, but it won't feel as fulfilling as if you got there legitimately. 2) Once you set up a second account, you can get busted for it. Neither account is going to disappear, so that actually gives KA and I an advantage. We only need to catch someone one time, one instant in time. They have to get away with it for all of their time at CC. The odds are stacked in our favor. Given enough time, we will find every person with a second account and bust them.
Q: How would you feel if you thought that ego was a contributing factor into why a user wanted to find multis?
A: I don't know. I guess it would depend on how it is being an ego boost. Is it someone who feels good because they are helping and making the site better? That would be a good thing, in my opinion. Is it someone who thinks, "Oh, I must find the most multis out of anyone, ever"? That I think is less noble, but the person is still trying to help the site, so it is good in a way.
Q: Which aspect of your job do you enjoy more? Modding and participating in the community, or Multi Hunting?
A: I think that it would be hunting. This site was created to be a gaming site that has a forum. It was not created as a forum that has games (unless you are in the Much Ado About Nothing forum). And since hunting is more associated with the games and moderating is associated with the forums, I feel that hunting is more rewarding.
Q: What's up with the username?
A: It has been my username for as long as I can remember. My first name is Lance and my last name is Hochhauser, so I chopped the last name because it is too long for a username and combined the two.
Q: What's up with the lack of an avatar?
A: I am not very creative, I never have been. I wouldn't know where to start. Since my username is so creative, it is hard to find something to go with it. It is not like my name is fuzzy pengiun and I can go steal the Linux avatar or anything.
Q: Do you have a secret weapon that enables you to hunt multis more effectively? If so, what is it?
A: Yes I do. lack installed a program a while back that turns the dots on the intensity cubes into webcams. Basically, all I do is look through archived video footage all day. That and I steal some of lack's gourmet peanut butter once in a while.
Q: Which do you think came first, the chicken or ramned the egg?
A: Well, based on join dates, I would say it is [player]chicken[/player], then [player]egg[/player], then [player]the egg[/player].
Q: Does multi-hunting replace real hunting, or do you kill small woodland creatures in your spare time?
A: I think that this just about sums it up:
Jeremy Grey wrote:I mean like, hunt a human being right now, "Most Dangerous Game". Like a worthy adversary. Not a human being that's armed, but a clever, a clever, human being who knows the jungle. Or the woods.
Q: Why did you drop your green camoflage to become enrobed in orange?
A: It was a similar situation to when I was asked to become a mod. I had been moderating the C&A forum for about six months and one of the admin (lack, Twill, or Andy, I forget who) mentioned that I was being considered as a potential hunter and asked if I would be willing to do it. I thought it would be a good experience, so I agreed to do it.
Q: If you had the chance to become any other type of mod, which one would you want to be?
A: I think moderating a lot of the forums are fairly similar. I have never done any moderating in Live Chat. If I ever had the chance to expand into another area, I think I would choose chat.
Q: As a Multi-Hunter, how many busts, bans, blocks, vacations etc. have you given out? (If you've kept track)
A: There have been very few blocks, maybe one or two pairs of accounts. There have also been very few vacations and bans. I think only one when someone was point dumping and maybe a few for advertisers. The number of busts is a tough one. It could be anywhere from 150 to 250 or more. I honestly don't have a clue. I know that a lot of the busts that I have made come back to a very small number of main accounts, I think that at least 75 busts came from just five different people.
Q: What is the silliest bust you have had to make?
A: Well, the usernames [player]youwontkeepmeout[/player] and [player]iamback[/player] seemed like dead giveaways.
Q: Who is the most cunning and devious multi/cheater you have seen?
A: Well, it would have to be one of the multis that I haven't seen yet, since all of the ones I have seen have gotten caught.
Q: Favourite mod/admin besides yourself?
A: I have become good friends with fuzzy and killmanic since we all joined up at the same time. NS and KA have been a great help as a more experienced people to glean information from.
Q: Best friend here on ConquerClub?
A: I would have to say fuzzy, killmanic, and NS. I talk to at least one ore two of them every night. We usually trade war stories and have a laugh.
Q: How long were you on the site before you became a mod?
A: Not too long actually. It was only about five or six months from when I joined to when I became a moderator.
Q: Before becoming Cheating And Abuse Mod, did you spend a lot of your time in there?
A: Yes, I did. A lot of people who were active in the C&A forum back in March and April of last year probably remember seeing me post in about half of the threads back then. That is actually how I became nominated for being a moderator. One of the people who frequented the C&A forum actually nominated me to Twill.
Q: Do you prefer your old green name to your new orange one?
A: Actually, my favorite color is green, so I prefer the green. It also stands out a little better.
Q: Favourite Map and settings?
A: Standard, four player, sequential, Classic (Shapes or Art, I don't mind the graphics), escalating, no fog, unlimited, casual; it seems to be what I fall back on and what I do well on.
Q: Favourite playing colour?
A: I guess green. I get to see the settings and at least one other player involved in the game.
Q: If you were to join a competitve clan which one would you want to join?
A: I have never really been interested in joining a clan. I really don't know enough about them to make any kind of judgement.
Q: Thankyou for your time lancehoch
A: It was a pleasure samuel.[/spoiler]
