Rommel was a brilliant general. He was admired by Montgomery himself and there was mutual respect. Rommel did not agree with many of Hitler's decisions and Hitler did not like Rommel because he knew Rommel was a great strategist. In fact Rommel disobeyed some of Hitler's orders. If I remember well Rommel was ultimately forced to commit suicide by Hitler. He could have done nothing against Hitler at that time.

Thank you political correctness! For making everyone so easily offended. Do you realize I could be "offended" ever day here at CC? I have seen sigs with cartoons mocking Jesus. Anti Christian posts. Offensive avatars. But I have not complained. I just look the other way. If you are offended, you might call the ACLU and they might help you in a lawsuit.

Rommel was implicated in the failed plot to blow hitler to pieces. Hitler gave Rommel no choice but to take his own life, saying he succumbed to injuries he received after being strafed by allied aircraft. This was done for propaganda reasons...He was a hero to the German people...

Thats the story.

It's more complicated than that Fitz...there were many brilliant minds in Germany at that time. The Americans and Russian even took some of those brilliant minds who aided the Nazis back home and gave them citizenship. That's how they got atomic bombs and went into space...

I am a Christian and I am offended by some of the avatars mocking Jesus in fact. Why not ban those as well like the swastika?

That's the problem...it's either you accept everything or you don't. There can't be double standards...

i didnt know about him being implicated...if he had his hand in that, then clearly thats what im saying he should have done all along......but my first post really was to get you going...

however, he had to have known that there was no way they could win...not ultimately, and bigger coups have been accomplished than than snuffing him out...

he sent his men on many successful missions, but in the end he got them killed for nothing...there is no other way for me to see it

and im not saying the men who followed the insane orders had many choices, had they not done it they would have been killed...

but someone truly brilliant would have found a way to save his men and his country from absolute and complete destruction

much like the morons that took down the towers...they struck a pretty hard blow...but in the end their entire regime was sent underground and saw their country that they wanted under their control...set free, at least as much as is possible at this time...how many of their friends and family did they get killed???. Im not comparing rommel to terrorists, just that
winning many battles does not make you brilliant...its winning the war that counts

we decimated the iraqi troops and Husein is dead...we did it quick...but i doubt anyone will be calling the war brilliant...personally im glad the guy is dead, but any brilliance will be shown by fixing the problems...and freeing the country not just fighting more battles....again killing is easy...solving the problems is not

Anyway on a last note lets make a petition to get the swatizka back or otherwise lack should make some rules up about avatatrs.

i think you are missing my point....the point is, it was easy to do and required no brilliance at all

but its a disaster now...and will take brilliance to fix it

Germany could have won World War II actually. If Hitler had not been stupid enough to attack Russia they had a good chance of winning it. Don't forget that Britain was pretty stretched at that time with the US preferring to stay out of the war she was fighting on her own. I also believe the English channel saved Britain at the start of the war! So if you think that Germany could not have won the war, think again. Germany had the best military machine in the world at that time.

Now about the Twin Towers and the attack on Iraq...sadly Iraq had nothing to do with it. Osama Bin Laden had and he hasn't been caught yet. Many of the people responsible for the 9/11 attacks are still free. The second war on Iraq (unlike the first one) was not legitimate as Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction. Bush just wanted to vent his anger over 9/11. Terrorism is a different kind of war...

About killing Saddam...I am against capital punishment. No man has the right to take another man's life. I would have preferred if he was sent for life imprisonment.

Had Germany allied with Russia the world would be a different place, but thier machine could not survive indefinitely. They could not have held the countries they conquered..they may well have conquered them...but they were not going to hold them

and i mentioned iraq and afganistan seperately as two separate examples

Osama attacked us and he is a fugitive living in caves. His organization was demolished in a very short time after his attack and his country celebrated its removal

The US demolished Iraq and his leader...but have hardly won the war...im using it as an example of being able to conquer a country but not win the war...

and i didnt say it was right to kill Sadam...i just said im glad hes dead...I happen to disagree with captial punishment too.

Which organisation? Al-qaeda? Don't quite think tis been destroyed yet. Global underground terrorist organisations are notoriously hard to get rid of. Its not even an organisation in itslef, in fact, but a grouping of terrorist groups under one banner. Still alive and kicking I'm afraid... and there isn't a single country we can invade to stop that.

I agree with Fitz, Saddam had to go...but not at the present cost...Somebody in time would have removed him...Ever wonder why Bush Sr. stopped at border during the Gulf war(when he had blessing of UN and the world)...He's a Veteran and understands the cost of war...Too bad Jr can't read history books.

im not at all suggesting they are gone......

the point is they attacked us and took on some serious damage...
and that they caused their own people much suffering and loss, not that they were utterly annhilated

unless you are trying to say the the attacks on the towers put them in a better position and were well thought out

of course they where well thought out.

It was a masterpiece (from a militaristic point of view...God rest the innocent CIVILIANS killed) .

A man living in cave striking at the heart of Capitislim!!!!

There structure and organistion is till very much alive and for every terroist that dies 10 more spring up to take his place.

Look at iraq, US troops suffered there biggest casaulties last month!!!!
Saddam Hussian told the world you will defeat IRAQ but IRAQ will be your grave!

my point is that killing is easy...but if it leaves you in a worse state afterwards it is not brilliant...its insane

and all they had to do was read a Tom Clancy novel to get the idea, and learn to fly....

the fact that we were stupid enough to let it happen doesnt make them brilliant

and the heart of america isnt two silly buildings...its in the heart of every american....try to break that

and one more time.....I AM SAYING THAT IRAQ IS A DISASTER...A MISTAKE...AN EXAMPLE OF A MILITARY ACTION THAT HAS MANY PROBLEMS...did you actually read my posts or just see the word iraq..and go nuts???

That isn't a swastika. It is a cross. And swastika (depending on wich way it is turned) can be a ezoteric symbol without any link to nazism.

this really is funny....my point is that all of these brilliant attacks have cost the attackers their countries destruction....the fact that the attack was successful is irrelevant....its the end game that matters....and coming out on top is what takes brilliance not an individual campaign

humans have always been good at war....its peace thats the hard part

and as far as the attacks that day...as painful as they are and as crushed as we were...it never broke our spirit...and nothing ever will

Ah yes- the rock solid connection between 9/11 and Iraq...

Not to mention that Iraq's been "destroyed" for a looooong time- that's why the States invaded it. Years of horrible atrocities funded by the States, then years of brutal sanctions....it was already the weakest country in the area when the states attacked it.

If there was a connection, then the attack should be viewed as retaliation for the states actions...

I haven't got the time to read all these posts but i did hear that the Nazi avatar got banned, i assume this is the topic.

I would just like to add that i disagree with it being banned. This attitude is part of the problem, a Big part. A nazi avatar means nothing to me, Nothing. Most, and when i say most, the majority of people who find this offence are hypocrites of the highest calibre, If old enough have probably even uttered the preposterous "just ignore them".
