The Greatest Horror Movie of all Time

Just curious what everyone thinks

I have a pretty big exam in about twenty minutes so I cannot write the justification necessary, but as soon as I have some spare time I will write a big long rant.

In my personal (and a good deal of the horror community's) opinion, the greatest horror movie of all time is:

Suspiria (1977) Dario Argento

If you're going to post a movie- justify your argument (this way we can avoid 'SAW 4 IS THE BEST HORROR MOVIE OF ALL TIME, PERIOD' ; and I'm not bashing the Saw series or it's followers, my girlfriend and I have seen every movie in the series on its opening night since the second one, the Saw movies are a whoooole 'nother discussion, however).

No matter what you do to him, he just keeps coming back. People have never looked at the goaly mask the same since. He has been stuck into a wood chipper, electrocuted, stabbed, burned, frozen, drowned... Need I go on? It's like An Abrams Tank going up against a person with no legs. There is just not that much that you can do to him.

While the Friday the 13th series may stand at the forefront of slasher genre horror films (I might disagree, however ), I would beg to differ that greater horror movies exist.

And if you're going to plug Friday the 13th, for Jason's sake use one of the original posters, not the New Line remake :

Well, seeing as I was introduced to 'Child's Play' and 'It' before I saw 'The Wizard of Oz', I would have to disagree regarding terror level as a young child . I was pretty traumatized during my early years, lol.

He still needs to be jettisoned into the sun, however. They naturally ignored that option in Jason X.

Good call on zombie flicks

While I'm usually hesitant to bring more modern movies into the 'best of' category regarding horror movies, how did you feel about 28 Days Later? I think it's easily in the top 5 zombie movies of all time, imo, even including earlier Romero.

Speaking of Romero, have you seenDiary of the Dead? It's my favorite out of his past 3 (Dawn/Land remakes + this one; I haven't seen Day of the Dead, and am unsure how much Romero really had to do with it.

Also, for pseudo-comedy/zombie Dance of the Dead was a FANTASTIC sleeper hit. I would recommend it to anyone who:
a. has been through high school
b. loves horror movies period, nevermind zombie movies

Easily the worst nightmares ever followed viewing 'Jesus Camp'.

Hellraiser 1 & 2 were my favorite "horror" movies. They were like horror operas. Very elegant butchery. But by far the scariest movie I ever saw was 28 Days Later. Still one of my top 5 movies of all time of any genre. Scary and cool at the same time. Loved it. 28 Weeks Later was a huge disappointment however.

The horror movie that scared me more than any other ever has, or will, was 'Child's Play'. To be fair, I was 8 years old, and it was the first horror film I had ever seen.

'High Tension' is probably the best slasher flick ever, and 'The Descent' was awesome too.

I thoroughly enjoyed the grudge 1 and 2 along with the ring, those 3 are probably my favorite of the more recent films. The way those people move in those films is just unnatural and pretty freaky what they can do when you think about it

pg-13 horror is pretty much the worst fucking thing ever

thats not very nice
it was still scary, I liked them better then the nightmare on elm street series, 28 days later ( which was still good ) or the friday the 13th series.
and just because a movie is pg-13 or not doesn't mean it can't be scary
