Inactive player in a game

Post by GodDiedTonight »

Hello,

I'm a rookie, but that doesn't mean I don't know the game. Anyway, started a game and tryed a new map: Europe. You can look it up at game : 185051

The game is still running and it's a 3v3, now the player fence6 joined the game, but he just doesn't play. He already missed a turn and will miss next one too.

Can there be something done about him ?
It really ruins the game...

Pff too bad, should be a system so you could swap inactive people by someone new.

This is a great site to play on, but we have one fly in the ointment - deadbeats. We have a freaking plethora of deadbeats because the rules are set up to give virtually no negative consequences (you don't even miss your armies) for missing turns. Since you have to miss 3 IN A ROW to get kicked out of a game, i've seen one wanker miss 7, and heard of a deadbeat missing 9 turns in one game. This is a ridiculous situation, but the fact is that it will not change - why? - because keeping the rules lax brings more members onto the site. So what do you think is more important to the site administration - improving the quality of the games for us, or putting more money in their pockets? I have been told by one official (Robin) that my continued ranting about it bored her, and that pretty much sums up the official attitude.

Normally i stagger games, so i have a deadbeat in one game, but the deadbeat's have already been kicked in my other games, so i never have a situation where i'm not playing at all because of deadbeats.

lol, im sure lack is not a money grabbing site maker, i assure you :P just look at his innocent face!

infact, $20 a year is a very cheap price compared to many other crappy sites.

unfortunately the main reason people deadbeat is that they dont read the rules. they come in as if it is a real time game, but dont realise you may have to wait hours for their turn, so they never come back. im not blaming them, like when i buy a new game for my psp, i just play straight away without reading the manual ;)

You're right lack - 20 dollars is cheap compared to some other sites, and this is an excellent site. I am very impressed with the creativity and well thought out facilitation of the boards. But this deadbeat thing is a major fly in the ointment. True, part of the problem is noobs who don't read rules, but i disagree that that is the "main reason". A lot of people are just downright inconsiderate, and if you don't make it inconvenient for them to inconvenience us, the situation will remain as it is. I think you owe it to your dues paying members to at least try to improve the quality here - even though it will put a dent in your quantity.

May I suggest something? Make it so that if you miss a turn on your FIRST round, you get kicked automatically. (I suppose that serious players wouldn't join in in the first place if they can't play the first one).

Or alternatively if the first suggestion is too harsh, make it so if a newbie (less than 5 completed games) misses their first turn they get auto kicked.
The second suggestion will remove at least *some* deadbeating, and won't be too harmful to anyone.

Deadbeats suck, plain and simple. They should get one miss with the army bonus, but after that, nada.

It's the absolute WORST thing to deal with when you've got a deadbeat n00b in 3 out of your 4 games. Especially when playing a "sequential" game -- that takes forever, especially when people want to invite you to play a real time game which would only take an hour.

I like the idea of having someone who missed their first turn automatically kicked from the game. I don't find it harsh at all; if they miss the first turn, then it's basically an indication that they won't play at all, and it makes the game take forever.

no matter what-it will suck if you dont have premium-deadbeets are not such a big deal when your not focused on 4 games because you have 20-40 games going on-get premium-you get what you pay for

I've just had a look at the game. It's a triples game and your absent partner will be kicked out if he misses one more turn. If he does return then he'll get 9 men on his next go - some people do this on purpose as a tactic, but as he's new I very much doubt that this is the case.

When he gets kicked out his territories will be transferred to the rest of your team, so don't try to take them as you did in West Germany because you'll only weaken yourself in the long run.

so, I'm new, and I already 'get' this dilema, but I've noticed that not many people leave negative feed back.. it seems like it would help whether or not you decide to enter a game.. I know I'll be looking closer..

ps. as a "nOOb" I can assure I'll be back tomorrow morning, afternoon, and night.. but in the future, I'll try to keep a free slot for real time games.

When I first joined CC, I too thought all the games were RT. I left the site frustrated that no one would play in the four games I started. I didn't know about the 24 hr thing until I recieved an email telling me it was my turn in a game. I returned to the site, and examined it more carefully, finally realizing the 24 hour wait. Noobs that don't return have no excuse, becaue when they're turn finally comes, they get an email telling them about it. I leave negatives for all deadbeats, no matter what the excuse may be. I don't care if their 3 kids got killed in a horrible sccident, I still leave a negative. I'll leave a neutral, if my P deadbeats, but I still win.

Hey steel, i have premium, i play 20-40 games, AND IT STILL SUCKS! In fact, the reason i have to get in 20-40 games is that they take so long, if i want to sit down for longer than 15 minutes at a time i have to get in that many games.

Deadbeats don't only make a game unbearably slow and ruin games for their partners, it takes away the satisfaction of the victory if the deadbeat is in an opposing team.

I saw a brilliant idea posted somewhere about this...

For a team game if you get a deadbeat then the deadbeats team member should simply replace the deadbeat with the same colours...

This means that the player would have the same turns as everyone else and the same problems.

I'm in a triples game where all 3 of us are playing... but the other team has 1 player with 2 deadbeats... he inherited practically the entirety of America (in a world 2.0 game) and is doing very well against the 3 of us... it's escalating though so I'm hoping we can turn it around as we can accumulate cards at 3 times the rate than he can!! If he merely changed to his team mates then he would have 3 turns but 3 different groups of armies thus would be a completely different system... also would mean that he would get the points for winning and the deadbeats wouldn't - although the bad bit would be he would lose 3x points for losing and deadbeats wouldn't - also if they get swapped out the game the Feedback system wouldn't allow you to give them negative... but that could be worked around!

One thing I think should happen is that "Inheritance" from deadbeats should be to the team mate who has played last...

This would still mean the player above you would get your guys - but would mean that if 1 & 2 were DB's the 3rd guy wouldn't have to wait til finally they gave it to the other guy and then both to him!
