Guidelines

Post by sailorseal »

Now be honest, how many times have you actually, sat down to read it cover to cover? I just did. There is actually a lot of interesting jokes in there.
"Saying the phrase Green Power makes you an environmentalist"
I challenge you, sit down and read it cover to cover, maybe "over a virtual cup of coffee (Or Tea)"

Heh! I should really ask myself if I'm contributing to the conversation by posting this!

All kidding aside, it was useful to reread the guidelines. I still haven't got the hang of the extremely simple coding to link to games and such, so it's good to know it's there for reference.

i read them once, but realized that they're just guidelines, and they're meant to be pushed. plus they only apply to certain people and situations... so its not even worth knowing

If you have not read them then why? Just curious if its because of the way they are presented, or if its just because people ignore guidelines no matter what :)

I haven't read them because in general my feeling is that most guidelines are going to be common sense and that people who don't feel the need to be a consistent ass aren't going to run into issues. For the most part I expect the guidelines to be in place to allow the site to point to when someone is being disruptive on the site in whatever way.

For the record, I haven't read the tournament handbook either although I think I can run a tournament without doing so.

I just re-read the guidelines and am quite confused as to how there is a 500 page thread about posting user pictures, in which posts are quoted by other user (thus illegally posting pics of other users), which has not received any warnings/bans/locks. Can you clarify this rule?

I think it's the second thing  . Really, not a lot of poeple IMO read the guidlines because they assume they know everything about the forum. I, for one, didn't even take a look at the guidlines.

The main reason I haven't read them is because I find their location with the bright bold dark red writing obnoxious and I also find the text patronising and demeaning, to the point that it is almost a flame:

Community Guidelines
You're on a forum...we know you can read...so why not start by reading the Community Guidelines.

I think it would be better suited if it was worded, like 'Please take time to read the (hyperlink="Community Guidlines") before posting in the forums :) "

This would be a much more positive message.

Thank you for your support in this motion, though your use of the word actually implies a layer of negativity as if I was personally unable to produce a comment that would make sense to you in any form, which I resent.

Sorry, no negativity was meant by my statement. It's something I had been considering over the past couple days, so the "actually" was meant to reflect further agreement and consideration.

Fortunately they're only guidelines, not rules.

I read the guidelines because I often forget where to put the fork.

The Guidelines should be required reading for all Forum Gangster wannabes,
so they can become familiar with the lines they need to cross to look "hard."

Famous last words such as...
"I just returned from my third banning and I'm still talking shit!"
come to mind.

To be fair I completely agree with this. I will look to get that changed to something a bit friendlier :)
