Re: 2009 World Baseball Classic - Quads (Round 2)
We are down to seven teams after third-ranked Korea (4-1) defeats No. 8 Mexico (3-2). Korea now faces Australia in another elimination game. Loser goes home, winner makes the semis.
In other news, Major League Baseball's owners have unanimously condemned the World Baseball Classic, as MLB is several weeks into the regular season, and top players such as Blitzaholic and Shatners Bassoon have yet to report to their teams.

Sorry for the delay, folks. Out-of-town vacation + a workplace that is getting fed up with my procrastinating ways = not much time for conquerclub.
No. 1 USA eliminated No. 4 Netherlands to bring the number of teams remaining down to six. The United States (3-2) will now face off against North American rival Canada (4-2) for a chance in the semifinals. Canada and USA have split two meetings during this tournament.

Yes, as Big Whiskey mentioned, Australia eliminated Korea from the tournament. Australia has locked a spot in the semis, and will face China to determine the Pool 1 winner. One spot in the semis is still up in the air as the USA and Canada face off.

Re: 2009 World Baseball Classic - Quads (Round 2)
USA became the final team to punch a ticket to the semifinals, eliminating Canada in Game 5 of Pool 2 (Game 4846770). USA will now face the Dominican Republic to determine the winner of Pool 2. The winner will face Pool 1 runner up China, and the loser will match up against Pool 1 winner Australia.

Re: 2009 World Baseball Classic - Quads (WINNER: CHINA)
Congratulations to banana_hammocks, Natewolfman, topper and vtonic. These guys were second place in their first- and second-round pools, then snatched victory from the jaws of defeat when it really mattered.
Thanks to all 16 teams and 64 players for making my first tournament a success.

Thanks AmphibiousRodent it was an exceptionally well run tournament, with the layout simple to follow. I hope you consider running another.
There were some very hard fought fights along the way. Thanks to everyone for making this a really enjoyable tournament.

Congrats to banana and team mates for a well-fought win.
And thank you Rodent for a very well run tourney, with an interesting system of qualifying & repechage, neat grid graphics, and a good selection of maps.
