When I was 15 I "lived" in Greece for 3 and a half months. Essentially, I stayed with distant relatives on a small island in the Mediterranean. Long story short, their lives are excellent; they worked half as much as Americans, took afternoon naps, and had a party every night. It was extremely fun. The United States is not like that, obviously, but I remain fairly happy here and do not long to go to Greece and live there. Keep in mind, too, that Americans like to complain, even when things are going well. As another example, here in Philadelphia our baseball team won the championship last year (we only have 2 championships in 100+ years). In any event, after losing the first two games of our 162 game season, our players were roundly jeered and booed... a somewhat telling example of Americans liking to complain.

If it's any consolation, I'm an American and I hate shopping. I don't know who performed that survey, but, frankly, I don't know many men who like shopping in their spare time. Perhaps it is a phenomenon strictly related to American women. I bet if we did a poll on this site (for only citizens or residents of the US), we'd get no responses for "shopping"... largely because most of us are men.

I was going to say that as well, but I my brother-in-law, who is a geek, also likes to shop (for comic books). He's pretty much the only male I know that enjoys shopping.
