Re: Vancouver Map [D] (Apr6 - p12)
"Events", eh? heh heh heh
Should I make it only Olympic events, or include other recreation in other areas as well? If it is only Olympics, it's pretty much concentrated in Vancouver proper. But if I add a little man hiking in Golden Ears, another Kayaking in Deep Cove, Horseback riding in the valley, that would spread it around some. Like the capitals in the USA map pack. And they'd just be white silhouettes (instead of multi coloured animals/golf courses/beaches), to distinguish from the 'Olympic' ones. It would be like what many maps have, where you collect X many Things for +Y bonus. Collect black ones for this, white ones for that? Or make them all black/all white, with no marker between what would be Olympic events and what are simply "to do when in Metro Vancouver"? I suppose it would be almost like a tourist map, with little symbols showing you where the good antiques are, where is a good place for a walk.
Because while yes - there will be those Olympic events, but typically people don't think "UBC? that's where Hockey takes place!", "White Rock? nothing happens in White Rock."
Once again, we'll have a drawing of what I'm thinking soon, though i'm sure you can all guess where this is going again.

Something like:

? Still too crowded? :/

Re: Vancouver Map [D] (Apr8 - p12)
i only think the legend is crowded i don't think there is a big need to show all the sports figures other then that i think it looks good
Re: Vancouver Map [D] (Apr8 - p12)
I know you probably decided this long ago, but alot of what you have on the map seems to be farmland and other towns. Do you really need the langley and maple ridge 'continents'? You have enough continents without them and they dont add much to the map in terms of gameplay. If you got rid of them you could put an easier to decipher legend on the left hand side of the map.
Re: Vancouver Map [D] (Apr8 - p12)
could the title be changed to "Greater Vancouver"?

Re: Vancouver Map [D] (Apr8 - p12)
I did consider what should and should not be there. I drew the line where it ceases to be "Greater Vancouver Area" or "Metro Vancouver" and becomes the "Fraser Valley".
Yes, it's farmland, but it's growing, and a lot of people live there and commute into downtown. And the Fort Langley/Maple Ridge connection should add something to gameplay. There are not many links between the north and south sides of the river.
And Joodoo, of course, it probably should. I've been calling it "GVA" in my head all this time ... do we like Greater Vancouver or Metro Vancouver better?

Yup, I agree. Greater sounds better.
Also, those weird squiggly white lines on your mountains, since cypress and seymour now have the sports figures on them, I think those lines should be removed so that u can fit the figures on top of the mountains and now have them overlapping. Cause the seymour one looks really bad with the figure off of the mountain like that.

I was looking at that this morning and worked the opacity - I could keep it and have it look like this:
[bigimg]http://www.atomation.com/~thazzard/fun/gva/apr9.jpg[/bigimg]
Or just wipe it altogether.

can u put up a wiped one so we can compare? But I think removing the white lines would be better.

greater vancouver sounds better. I think you could take 2cm off the right of the map without reducing the territories (might have to redraw the borders for aldergrove) and then add a minimap in the bottom left of the map.
Re: Vancouver Map [D] (Apr8 - p12)
I had a minimap before, it made things crowded and I hope to cover all the bonuses in one area instead of two. As for cutting the eastern continents in half, I feel a bit funny - farmland or no - deviating from the true shape of things.

Because from time to time I click on layers that shouldn't be visible, or forget to turn things on. It's fixed now.

Hi shakeycat,
Juat taking a look at your mapthis afternoon and I have to say it is coming along brilliantly. I haven't read in here in a while so forgive me if I bring up anything that has been mentioned before.
-My first point. You have two rivers that run north into the deadland. One blends into the background, one runs to the edge of the map. Both of these look like fine ways to do it but they need to be consistant I feel to look better. Either both should run to the edge of the map or both should blend into the decrotive dead space image for the sake of consistancy.
-Your legends seems a little cramped and may be difficult to read on the small map. You have plenty of size allowance in terms of height. Why not add a little extra space to the bottom of your legends to making everything a little bigger and less cramped?
I have a few smaller concerns but those are the big ones I have for now. Keep on working mate you are doing a great job.

.
it appears one river is seperating regions while the other just runs into deadspace...

Re: Vancouver Map [D] (Apr10 - p13)
u still have 64 starting regions. to bring the number up to 66 and eliminate the potentially-troublesome 2-region bonus zone, try adding ambleside, which appears to be the most happening part of west vancouver (the other four communities listed below have only a standard description), and the canada line airport station, since i think the airport link is one of the main reasons for the existence of the canada line - the airport station is on a different branch from richmond, but must be part of the same bonus zone for gameplay purposes.

I count 66 already. Two mountains got added.
Re: Vancouver Map [D] (Apr10 - p13)
The count is at 66, or 65+1 since New West is neutral.
I'll redraw that pesky river tomorrow, see if you all like it better a different way.

Ahoy!
I'm really digging the clean graphics of this map. Sleek, clean, crisp. The textures of the regions could use a sprucing up---as long as it was kept clean and not distracting.
As for the game play---I might consider knocking down Maple Ridge's bonus to a 2, instead of 3.

[bigimg]http://www.atomation.com/~thazzard/fun/gva/apr15.jpg[/bigimg]
Extended Pitt River (by Maple Ridge), added Ambleside, made the bottom bar larger and more readable (will really notice this in the small version, when I remake that!)
I'm not sure what to do about textures - do I mess with the regular ones that come along with my Fireworks (it's on Smoky, I could try something else)? Do I make all territories the same, or make them all different from each other?
I played with some "real" textures a bit - wheat, grass, forest, garbage dump, then cranberries for Richmond ..
[bigimg]http://www.atomation.com/~thazzard/fun/gva/apr15t.jpg[/bigimg]
...but other than Richmond, they stand out too much, no? Experiment more, perhaps.
ALSO -
Canada Line: How should I add a stop for YVR? And should Sea Island really be named YVR? I like that Sea Island is real words, as YVR may confuse any non-locals by not standing for anything. Sea Island already touches Bridgeport and Mayfair and Kerrisdale, so by making a YVR stop that attaches between Mayfair and Kerrisdale, or to either one, would it be redundant? Though I suppose with the bonus involved it is not so much for travel as for the bonus above another bonus.
