i am constantly surprised when people complain about what other people are typing in these forums....

none of it is required reading...read what you want and ignore what you want

it really is that simple

Sure, it's engaging towards a religious debate, but it isn't necessarily a religious debate whatsoever. Though, I like how you spun that bit.

I was taught that speaking of religion when you're a guest to someone's home/apartment/etc is considered rude. Of course, that's only social implements, and nothing really relative. What's relative is how the system works without religion which works just fine.

The underlying message seems to be an attempt to spread atheism (by saying that we should keep religion out)

How would one spread another by being lax about the former? Atheism is a philosophy just like theism; they are not diseases that spread into our systems physically. You can be an atheist one day, and then (for whatever reasons) decide to become a theist, or even an agnostic the next. That's what I'd like to call, "freewill"! =D

all the while trying to cast anyone who disagrees with you in a bad light for spreading their own beliefs (because others might disagree and be offended).

You make this all sound a big ol' conspiracy comming from 'The Man'. Does that mean 'The Man' is an atheist trying to abolish organized religion all together?! Oh my, what a world!

Seriously, though, there's a board where you can discuss religion freely (in a sense), and that's the Flamer Wars board just because you can say whatever you please there. I'm pretty sure noone's trying to suppress another's need to talk about teh lawd. At least, I don't think the staff's gonna do that.

I agree it is very hypocritical. Everyone in the forum is here by choice and everyone has the power of the ignore list.

I dont see the hypocricy. Actually, I couldn't see what your point was, at all!
Oh, and I find the ignore function to be...worthless for someone like me. :]

I voted no, cause Jesus told me too.

Well maybe CrazyAnglican should have used the word secularism instead of atheism. I think that secularism is a value/belief system with political clout just like the major religions and I wouldn't want to have a policy on CC that favoured secularism over the organized religions anymore than a policy favoring one religion over another. We all need to be tolerant of those with different beliefs, secular or religious, and everything will be OK O:)

i read your first post and voted no to disagree with the post, but i did not read the question, i should have voted yes. (just clarifying). It is pointless not being allowed to mention religion because it is such an important part of life whether or not you agree with it i bet you have come into contact with it reguarly. There should be no band topics but offensive comments (bad language or racism) should be withheld unless in a funny manner.

So we're allowed to be racist as long as we're funny? OK, then.

Why should you care if someone mentions there beliefs on CC? If you don't like it don't listen. Mute or Ignore the person{s}. And go about your day!

That said. Thank you Jesus for this wonderful day!

Hmmm---just think without religion we wouldn't have the missionary position. :D

Religion sucks.

More people have been killed on this planet in the name of some religion than any other cause.

The thought of some omnipotent being that controls our destiny is just absurd.

By the way I realize the irony of this post in this thread. :P

Yeah, I suppose so, but that's never really gonna happen when people (like me) have fun with stereotypes.

Funny that CrazyAss didn't come back. I wonder why? :P

no just so long as it is not meant to hurt anybody, if nobody can make jokes then we become to politically correct. If people take offence then of course it should be dealt with.

He's right you know - great to see the happy clappy religious folk up against the stalwart atheists. Personall, I am religious but not overly so and if someone wants to take the piss out of Christianity (or any other religion), that is up to them - I don't care and that should be an option in this poll!

Oh and btw - I saw a post somewhere else arguing that Christians would suffer persecution for their faith (and that related to the Bible!)

Tough topic, really hard to decide, i mean u could make a forum for religion only, but the only problem is, people will post things up about other religions that might be false... Its a really tough situation, but honestly i think you should leave religion out even though im a Christian.

Maybe have a "potentially offensive" tag for forums, like NSFW so people know to avoid them, and have only themselves to blame if they get offended.

I think people should be able to talk about religion, among many other topics, in these forums as well as in game chat. If people were actually sitting at a risk board game, people would possibly strike up conversation between each other and that may involve a multitude of topics. Just be careful to understand what may be offensive to those around you.
