World War 2 Map
What does everyone think about a World War 2 map. It would be a 6 player map only. And you have 6 countries to choose from. You could be either the Americans, Russians, British, Japan, Italy or Germany. You would start of with your own country already and get bonsus for the country you have already. Aim is still to capture the world. But the map should be historically accurate. I.e. India for example would also belong to Britain. Its complicated but would be fun and educational.
the idea is very interesting, I'm a big fan of WWII history. I also like the idea of tweaking game play a bit, of course the question is would be able to be done. I think you should find that out first, and if it can be done I think you should definitely proceed.
...where I'm from, we believe all sorts of things that aren't true. We call it -- "history"

Italy would have Libya and Somalia and Ethiopia. But we may need to exaggerate Italy's strength a little... because even with three countries in Africa (which it actually owned) it'll still stand no chance. but this won't work well because Lack has to change things for it to work....

I disagree
Well I like the game with its random system, rather than trying to create a historic WW2 map that will cause people to argue on which country was the best and so on.
For example, hulmey used these countries to play the game : Americans, Russians, British, Japan, Italy or Germany. Why not Belgium, France, or Poland ? Because they lost ? Well if we replay the game, why not try them as a winning possibility ?
Plus I think we will face problems of those who will say that this or this army counted more people, and those who will say these countries had more tanks or planes than the others, and those who will argue about the quality of the material.
Conquer Club is a good simple game, don't complicate it with history or by bringing controversial people who will ask to modify the map belonging to their controversial point of views.

I suggested those particular 6 countries because they where the most powerful and well know countries invovled in World War 2. Otherwise you could choose from well over 80 countries which took part in World War 2.

Im also thinking of adding a few air bases which can attack any country on the map. That would be very interesting
. But im working on it. Does anybody know of any sites on the internet where i can view maps of 1937?

How interesting. So all countries in the map are border countries?

All countries have borders, Marv. But don't get too hard on Marv, he's a native Lusophone.Marvaddin wrote:hulmey wrote:Im also thinking of adding a few air bases which can attack any country on the map.

Cant you understand a thing? I mean, if there is an air base that can attack any other territory, you need defend all the countries in your continent, because all can be attacked from the air base. So, in practice, its like all territories are border countries of their respective continents. So... VERY bad idea.

Only thing you might do with airbases, is that they can attack the capitals of each continent for example, so even if they are in the middle of a continent, they should also be defended.
Attacking of all countries is not a good idea.

I've actually played a similar game to this using the board game risk.
6 individual teams
Japan
Germany (Axis powers pre 1941)
USSR (Comintern)
France (France pre Vichy)
Britain (British Cominwealth)
USA
Divide the manpower equally between each team as usual
Each team gets the same amount of territorys (to make it reasonably even). Try as far as possible to make it as near historic as possible with out giving too much advantage to one team (i.e. a continent at the start).
Heres how I done it:
British Commonwealth= Great Britain, South Africa, India, Western Australia, Eastern Australia, North West Terratory, Alberta
Japan = Japan, China, Kamchatka, Irkutsk, Peru, Madagascar, Indonesia
Germany = Northern Europe, Southern Europe, East Africa, Scandinavia, Argentina, Brazil, Middle East
France = Western Europe, Quebec, Ontario, Central America, Siam, North Africa, Egypt
USA = Eastern USA, Western USA, Alaska, Venezuela, Iceland, Greenland, New Guinea
USSR = Ukraine, Afganistan, Ural, Siberia, Yakutsk, Congo, Mongolia
We had to cheat around some issues but the date is roughly 1940. Fall of mainland Europe about to happen (except France is still not conqured). Japan has taken Madagascar from France (as it wanted to in the Vichy France breakup treaty with Germany. We gave tham Peru to even it up and allow them a chance for a mainland american expansion. We treat this to represent the island hopping expansion that was going on at this time in the pacific.
USA has Iceland and Greenland to represent Denmarks fall and the construction of US airbases here. New Guinea represents the Phillipeans and Guam
USSR has Congo (hell the cold war can just start a few years early!).
France has a free Quebec and Ontario joined them! Central america represents their South american interests, but in game terms gives them a more rounded chance to take America, this was needed to stop an easy USA expansion here. All in all France is the most unrealistic country (and probably the hardest).
Germany and Italy are allied, Norway's been annexed, Brazil (facist Portual at this time) and Argentina have joined them (they were sympathetic and many Nazis fled here after the war.
Britains not bad really historically.
Game wise: every team has territorys on at least 3 continents. No one has more than half of a continent to start. Most teams have at least a natural (mainly historical) expansion/conflict route).
I would say Brtain plays quite well (but is on the weak side)- very spaced out but a good chance of getting Australia at the start.
France is probably the hardest. but has a (non-historic) route in US if required or can go historic for North African, Middle East Southern Europe war.
Germany is quite strong - Has half of South America, a natural reinforcement route if North Africa is taken and a good chance for Europe.
USA. Has some token places round the globe but has the best chance for North America (well it was isolationist at this time!) Can be strong - depnds how France Britain play. Weak side is hard to expand outwards.
USSR: Got to have a fight with Japan for Asia really. On the weak side really, not much chance of a continent, but then thats Risk really, isn't it? If you can get asia you'll win - but its bloody hard to catch and keep!
Japan: I would say Japan can be the strongest as all its relevant territory's are close together (depends how you play reinforcement rules really) but again not much chance of doing anything but figting USSR, Brtain can troble it too thought (actually this theatre of conflict can be quite historical!)
I would say roughly from weakest to strongest
France, USSR, Britain, Japan, USA, Germany
But some are quite balanced.
