One of the greatest college basketball games I've ever seen!

Post by luns101 »

For those of you outside of the U.S., you probably won't understand how crazy we get over NCAA basketball this time of year. This week the different conferences are playing their championship tournaments to get automatic bids to the March Madness tourney. So teams are scrapping and battling with a little extra incentive.

Which brings us to one of the greatest games I think I've ever witnessed.

Syracuse versus Connecticut. The box score doesn't do this justice. I'm sure the game ended so late that it may not even have the complete story in the sports section tomorrow for the print newspapers. Johnny Flynn was awesome. If you get a chance to watch this game replayed on ESPN, take the opportunity.

6 Overtimes! Both teams battled and it was a privilege to watch. I hope the 2009 tourney lives up to this standard. Syracuse has to get ready to play their next game in just 20 hours. I'm sure Iz Man probably had a heart attack several times watching this one.

Watched the whole thing. Incredible. I have the utmost respect for Jonny Flynn over almost any player in the NCAA right now (can't top my Heels though). Replays will live on forever -the bombed tre as time expired that was reversed rivaled the W. Kentucky shot in the tourney last year for greatest I've seen. This was just unlike nothing else.

I "just" saw everything from the 4th OT on. While obviously I give mad props to Syracuse for gutting that one out, I have a hard time seeing that as anything but a tie, really. It was clear at the end that both team's starters were totally dead, it was basically a showdown between players who will not play the rest of the tournament. Overall, I would be very surprised if the powers-that-be penalize UConn anything, if at all. Then again, the seeders for the NCAAs have continually lowered my expectations of them.

Bah! Flynn played so well I decided to give him an extra "h" in his name.

Anyway, I think a lot of people are going to be watching Syracuse take on West Virginia tonight. It should be interesting to see if the Orange can get some energy back after last night's contest.

If anyone gets the ESPN Classic channel, my uncle just called me and said they're going to be replaying it on there soon.

I think the stress made me miss this thread, which is my reason for posting in the March Madness thread...

I'm spent after that game.....almost called in today.

Of course this thread wouldn't even exist if the correct call was upheld at the end of regulation... ;)

A second championship for Jimmy B. coming soon?.......

Haha! Can you believe it...they needed another overtime tonight to defeat West Virginia. This is one gutsy team.

Well, it's down to them against Louisville

Unfortunately for the entire nation, Puke University won tonight by 1 point over Boston College over in the ACC.

Heh.. beware of the Big OT Orange! These last two games should improve their seeding for the Big Dance but can they handle Louisville to win the Big East? Duke and UNC both sqeezed one out tonight and are one win away from facing each other again in the ACC final.
