OK...I have 17 men against 11. After the battle I was left with 5 men and the opponent left with 9. Do the math... I lose 12 men and they lose 2. I musta been throwing rocks as he mowed me down with m16's. This isn't the first time "the unbelievable" has happened. Another example I had 10 men sittin on alaska...when I logged back on a foriegn power was sitting on alaska with 11 men .... now I look at the game log to see what happened....HE had a trade in and put 10 men in yatguts (sp?) Having had 4 men already there plus the 10 placed = 14 men...you mean to tell me he went through kamchatka and MY 10 on alaska and lost 3 men???? If this glitch or obserdity is not fixed I am sure to loose interest in this site. Maybe this happening once in a blue moon but it happens far too often!

but nmic... it is not! it is in a sense, but the dice are not random, because they have been set in a pre-determined way to make sure we see absolutley no two dice rolls in a row. (I'm pretty sure it's likewe won't see a dice roll twice ever, until 500,000 dice rolls, after it repeats).
I may be wrong... lol

jay, get this: It's RANDOM.
niMic get THIS: 17 men losing to 11 (12 and 2 respectively) is NOT random.. the game sould be called Defendclub instead of conquerclub...cause the defender has the advantage 80% of the time.

As the Spaniard said: "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
guys, guys....to put it in the words of someone from lock stock and two smoking barrels - "Chill winston"
The dice are determined by a file of possible dice rolls which are pulled from random.org, which in turn are determined by variations in atmospheric pressure. They are as random as they can possibly get for a computer.
Now we have all had strings of bad luck, and have all had strings of good. I'm sure at some point, like me, you have had 5 of your armies attack 10 of theirs and you win, but nobody complains about that now do they
The dice be random, luck be a pain, risk be risky
Have a great day, Vive la Randomness

Not me...cause if I was playing risk (boardgame) I would not attack 10 guys with only 5....so I don't do it here either. : ) EXCEPT out of desperation and the outcome was as I suspected it would be...I lost.

Certainly not... consider the battles of Marathon... Thermopylae... Gaugamela ... Agincourt... the Spanish Armada... Trafalgar... Napoleon's invasian of Russia... Midway... the Tet Offensive.
Sometimes superior tactics or arms overwhelm a vastly numerical-superior army (Trafalgar, Agincourt), sometimes terrain or timing (Thermopylae), and sometimes just incredibly bad luck of weather or other factor (1812 winter in Russia, the sea storms of 1588).
Risk distills all the different factors that make up war into a few simple rolls of dice. If you prefer a more "realistic" game, there are dozens of wargames out there that try to make a more accurate simulation (for instance, most of the output of Avalon Hill in the 70s and 80s).
In Risk as in history, most of the time, a numerically-superior army wins, but everyone has setbacks now and then. Sometimes one can recover from such a setback with luck, skill, or tactics; sometimes it completely turns the tide. But nothing is ever certain when one starts a battle.

I am assuming all players armies are equal....(not red using tanks. blue using nukes and me using box cutters!)
