what,me worry?, let me ask you this... as scenario........your children are playing in the yard.. and these 2 "idiots" hop your fence with a gun...and the gun goes off...whether it's by accident or on purpose..and one of your children are hit...... would you keep quiet then? or lets say they dont do anything in your yard.....and there are 2 guns..one fell..the other still in the hands of one of them..they hop a few fences, and then a child gets shot... is it "just " that child's time to die? I'm sorry, but I don't agree with you on this one....this IS the reason most criminals are able to get away..because of the fear that the community has that if they say something they will be harmed for doing so.

Well, its cowardly of course, but really you cant be judged...that really is a life and death decision your making. No one not in that situation can really understand. Certainly doing it anything but anonymously is suicidal. The only problem is, if one of your relatives gets killed by one of those guys, and no one sees a thing... you may have a different theory on the subject.

Luckilly, there really are a lot of people who would in fact help to convict these guys.

"Snitches get stitches" is another way for a person to say, "I'm a coward and I'm OK with scumbags doing whatever they please in my world."

Just my opinion.

I will start snitching on civilians who are allegedly criminals when the cops start snitching on corruption among the cops. Every city I have lived in the drugs on the street where there because the cops were being paid off.

Hey how about that murder cop that killed that unarmed guy in Oakland. Got that one on tape.

Yes, some cops are corrupt so all citizens should unite and support the criminals.

Nothing wrong with that logic.

Regarding the "Should I be a witness or should I keep quiet?" dilemma, some people have made good points. If it is actually going to put yourself in grave danger, then you may want to keep quiet. That said, it does make you a coward and a part of the problem.

Nope, just an example of the lack of justice in this society and the consequences of that failure.

Again, it really is impossible to judge someone based on one incident. Further, there is absolutely no way, he could say anything to the cops directly right there, especially if it was on his front lawn in plain site. However, to be a witness, even anonymously could help out, and not as much endanger you.

I myself had to turn in a neighbor for a stolen car. I actually suspected it a month before, but wrote it off, and then in a twist of fate, I happened to see it where it was dumped. Still, it was unique enough, and I knew cars, but I had no idea it was the same one. Until of course I found out, and sure enough when I went home, the car was gone. I called the cops to let them know. And don't think I didn't feel dirty about it, but it could have been my car, or belonged to someone I knew.

To make the story even more funny, I went to the station and talked to the fool behind the desk. Explained the whole situation...and the guy said.."no that car came from New Mexico, so it wasn't your neighbor". This guy thought it was just a coincidence, that a car exactly the same make and model, that was parked in the same spot out back of a house, was not the same one, that was dumped a mile away, on the same day, that the other one happened to be moved for the first time in a month. Im not joking. It was really that easy to figure out. I of course knew it was, since it just had to be, and when I talked to the actual detective he laughed and said, essentially, that "yeah, those guys don't know anything."

It really was surreal explaining the situation and having the first cop not be able to realize the situation for what it was. Of course, it was kind of scary too.

I did tell the cops, but ill tell you this, I did not send them a post card letting them know I did. And there is no question that I put my family and self at risk. I did what I had to do, but I can not say it felt good, in any way.

It makes no sense to me to put my family at ANY risk for someone else's property. It the car wasn't insured, the owner was an idiot.

By not telling the cops, you would be putting your family at risk by allowing the criminals to get stronger.

That is a problem in America. There are too many people that live in fear of the criminal element. Yeah, yeah, who am I to judge? I don't know what it's like. But the fact is, I am right.

Is it really as bad as you people portray it? I say "NO!" If it was really that dangerous, the criminals wouldn't be going out of state to steal cars. They would walk into your living room and say "Write me a cheque, bitch." Why make the extra effort to go out of state and steal a car? People are so afraid they'd just hand over their money to stay safe. I think they have you fooled.

The problem in America is that the cops are corrupt, the courts work only for the rich, our public education system is simply a precursor to prison or minimum wage for life, and our penchant for putting non-violent property crimes in prison for 20 years is bankrupting the states. We now have more people in prison than China.

And this is the China which puts people in prison for just having weed...oh wait.

Obviously that is ridiculous.

I said "That is a problem in America..." I specifically said "a" and not "the" because there are a lot of problems in America.

What kind of pizza? Because it must have been pretty good if it was worth the risk...

Regardless, the discussion was really revolving around the idea of whether it is worth the risk to speak up if you witness a crime. It wasn't dealing with all the problems of the justice system in America.

Yeah, and we got a great solution for the slow, uneducated, and ignorant people that we throw on the streets -- lock 'em up.

Shit the health care cost alone of our prisons in California are bankrupting the state.
