forced to be an athiest???? or is it ok????
Alright lets get this down from the very start i have no problem with you and this is NOT a desccioion on GOD and if he is there or not. This is how i presive you tell me if i am wrong in this line of thinking. Frist and formost i am a Roman Cathilic who does not go to church that often. i do belive in a God and that would be the god i belive in ok. So now you know where i am coming from ok.
latly there has been a whole lot of disscion about God in our everday life for example plege of alligaince, money, and even Obama's take that back recent presidential swearings in where at the end they say somthing like so help me God or somthing in way of God. it also comes up in taking the stand you swear in on a Bible. all realious stuff ok.
Now here is my problem with the term athiest people associated it with some one with out religion!!!!! now what is a realigon to me it is a belif in somthing no matter what that belif is and is held with some extendent by others. meaning they have the same core belifs.
now alot of people say that we should not say god or force anyone to say that or get god off our money or teach cereationsim because it would be forcing a religon on people right!!!! Wait hold the phone ATHIEST IS A REALIGON it is a belif that GOD dose not exsist. they might not meet in a church mosk or snygog (Sorry bad speller forgive me) and by forcing us to stop us from exsersing our freedom realigion You Athiest seem to be forcing us to become like you. WHAT DO you athiest think of this?????? i was just wondering

Capitalisation.
Punctuation.
The comma is a friendly character and run-on sentences are the enemy of sanity.

I was going to be a dick about the semi-english you used, but everyone else already took care of that. I guess I'll respond seriously.
Who said anything about excising religion? Or freedom? I don't...oh...oh, exercising.
But seriously, you can be as religious as you want...assuming you don't bring your religion into the public sphere. Putting "God" on money is an example of this. Personally I don't really give a damn. I never really thought about the "under God" bit of the Pledge, for example. Hell, I never thought about it at all. It was drilled into my head since kindergarten. Even when I was old enough to notice, I just skipped that phrase. But, I'm not sure why you'd particularly care that your god isn't explicitly given the nod in everything involving our government...how does starting to drift from that impede on you practicing your religion?
My parents, although both fairly religious in their own ways, never really talked to me about any gods. I was apparently baptized as a baby, but I obviously don't remember that. Indeed, I wasn't even aware I was an "athiest" until I was in Junior High. I remember my friends asking me where I went to church when I was little. I had no idea what they were talking about. My point is, during the first decade of my life I had no concept of "god". I heard the word sometimes, in the pledge for example, but as a kid it meant about as much to me as "indivisible" (that is, nothing).
Was I in a religion as a kid? Even though I had no opinions on the matter? Did I suddenly have a religion when I heard about the gods of ancient Egypt (no joke, those were explained to me in depth before the Christian God) and didn't immediately buy into them? At what point does a lack of belief in something become a religion?

I figure my arguments will have about as much of an impact on him that it does on literate people who hold the same opinions as him...so I had low hopes to begin with.

ok i can see your point. about the shift from time. i guess i never looked at it this way before. i can tell that it has been this way for a long time i am just one that see tradition and i really hate change.
as for your response about that i would say since you were a kid you did not have a religion you had no belifs. ifyou are ignorent of any belifs than you turly dont have a religion than. but as soon as you understand what god is than you making a dessicion and making a belifs and once you hold your belifs that is when you get a religion does that make sense

atheist= person who does not believe in supernatural force, or god that controls universe
anyone who believes in a supernatural force or god, is not an atheist...
it is the belief that is fundamental to the word, not actions. I can fully guarantee you there are plenty of self-proclaimed holy men and women that are atheists, and plenty that call themselves atheists, that actually deep down inside, believe there is a god.
No one can be forced to be an atheist, without perhaps some sort of mind control/brain washing...but most brainwashing is typically done to convert people from atheism

That doesn't make any sense.
Athiesm is the denouncement of any religion or god. It is, therefore, not a form of religion. Anyone who tries to imply otherwise is really clutching at straws

I can barely follow what is going on here.
"however, would you go along with the idea thatsince it is a belief then the government is free to take a side?"
Is that what you're saying?
I'll answer this first. Since I am now aware that you are not from America, rather some backwards country where you have no freedom. In the US of A it is against the law for the government to "take a side." You've probably never heard of such a thing, I know. You really should learn more about government + religion = hell. Feel free to ask us for more information, because I am certain that your government forbids books and websites on such matters.
Also, we here in Illinois do not swear on the bible. We raise our right hand and swear to tell the truth.

Re: forced to be an athiest???? or is it ok????
Atheism is not a religion and no democratic government takes the side of atheists over christians, beyond not allowing any church the right to force feed it's opinions about the world on others.
You cannot force beliefs on an atheist or take them away from a person who prefers spiritual persuits. Presenting a horse with water doesn't mean it will drink and removing the water won't end it's thirst.
What ever your beliefs may be nobody can take away, because you carry those beliefs with you always. It is simply a question of your faith and not if you practice what you preach. Most religions are not based on the availability of a church to worship in or that all people must see things as you do. That is a generalised thought, since many Churches believe in absolutes that declare their way of devine recognition as the only way to find God's true forgiveness and would prefer for everyone to believe as they do.

Sure: but including specifically christian oaths in court, and on money, is taking sides.
I don't think anyone's suggested that the dollar bill include a note "BTW there is no god, suckerz". Just silence on the subject.
Nor has anyone suggested one should take Darwins's Origin of species in one's hand before giving testimony - just drop the bible.
