Re: Official: Central America Competition - POLLS OPEN!
i voted 2 because it feels like it has some central American 'flavour', colours work well together etc, i think it has a better chance of being polished into something fantastic, its an edge to it (i think its the ocean that does it)

You must have missed the part where i said vote for your favourite
which may not necessarily be #2

I understand a mapmaker wanting to drum up support, as long as it is done tastefully (posting in other public forums, for instance, is just obnoxious). In any case the mapmaker runs the risk of handing votes to another map, as is the case here!

lol I have to agree that I find that funny
btw oak, u got me messed up with voting by rearranging the entries. I had it memorized which entry was what number, and u got it all mixed up for me!

one guy had a bunch of multi accounts vote for him. I'm not saying HE made them but multi accounts (they never said whose) voted for his map.
the other guy was disillusioned with CC so he decided to drop out.

i voted for #2 because i liked the depth the map has. the others seem a little flat. i also like that it has the crests for the territories.

I reluctantly voted for #2. Wish the original #3 was still here...
Re: Official: Central America Competition - POLLS OPEN!
this is when the folks who voted for #3 or #4 change their votes to back a winner... good luck to the leaders!

Re: Official: Central America Competition - POLLS OPEN!
I wonder if #1 has an advantage since it is the only large map here...
Re: Official: Central America Competition - POLLS OPEN!
doesn't look like there'll be a significant margin.
I think they just work together and take the best elements of each map: #1's style; #2's fonts and legend. We will have a super map! or something that looks terrible!

Re: Official: Central America Competition - POLLS OPEN!
Thanks for the votes everyone- I was entry number 1
I would like to note that Samuel (creator of #2) and myself very well may put a combined effort into the final map to make it as great as possible. I am rather unnerved by the negative responses to our entries, and would like to let you all know that both myself and Samuel will be ready and willing to make as many changes as necessary to create a map you will all enjoy and feel is up to par for something coming out of the foundry. Obviously I'll keep my base style (as that's what I started with and that's what won the comp) and moving as far away as EI's entry would remove the relevance of the competition- but many changes will of course be made.
As soon as Oak okays it I will (assuming the thread isn't move automatically) into the foundry and you guys can all rip it apart. I will start the thread off with a bunch of intended changes, then consider everything you guys want. The intended changes will be drawn from comments in this thread and anything else I come up with.
Again- thanks for the votes! I promise I won't let you down

Re: Official: Central America Competition - POLLS OPEN!
lol since people know who made 1 and 2 now, I might as well throw in my hat and tell u guys that I made entry 4
lol now im bored, I have nothing to work on. The monthy competition over at the Cartographers Guild is in its voting stage, so I dont have anything to work on, and I dont have any cc maps to work on at the moment.
anybody have any good ideas for me? lol
btw, i dont think that the style I chose for my entry worked out that well. I should have gone with a parchment styled entry :\
I agree with some comments about my entry (to dark, bad legend text, etc) but i dont get how people couldn't tell the regions apart. Each region has a different legend glow, so it should be pretty simple to figure out.
Oh, and for the people worried about copyright, there wasn't any copyright infringement or anything, I made the image from scratch, using some techniques that give a more realistic look to an image. (heres a link to my first map with that style http://forum.cartographersguild.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6243&d=1219859085 )
Thanks for the votes for anybody who voted for me
