Is this a bug or a valid strategy?
I have just played a freestyle game where a player ended the round and started the next round with no player playing inbetween. This won them the game. But according to the CC instructions this should not be possible. It is becasue he left his turn until the last hour of the 24hrs, took his turn and then let it run out of time so his end of turn did not trigger the new round. This meant that he could start the new round and ineffect get two turns in a row and obviously cleanup.
I am not saying he did anything wrong because he played well and deserved the win but I do think he was using what is in effect a fault in the system. A player should not be able to take two turns in a row.

a lot of players use that. i don't know if the CC admins are working on something to "fix" that, but i certainly know it's allowed. you'll be very unpopular with some people then though :S

To answer your question: It's a perfectly valid strategy (basically a de facto double turn). Guess it may hit people who don't know about it with some degree of surprise the first time they see it, but it's inherited in the freestyle setting. Use it with caution though if you're playing with cards.

It gets used a lot in Speed Freestyle games, using it in Casual is not against the rules but I do personally consider it bad manners.
You'll see this a lot in a No Spoils game, they'd lose out on a Spoil in a Flat Rate or Escalating game so you won't see that happen often in those games.

I personally believe timing out should have the same effect as ending your turn at 1 second, except you don't get spoils. Aka - the other person can immediately start their turn.
Re: Is this a bug or a valid strategy?
In my opinion that's a valid strategy but I don't think that many people uses it. Depending on when did the last round finish you can find yourself having to wake up at 4:20 AM to take your "double-turn"!... Is it worth it?

Seeing as a round is 24 hours long... the next round will start the same time last round did (or when someone plays).
Unlikely someone will be playing at 4:00 AM since most people come from a few time zones here.

Yep, you are right. About the time zones, I guess most of the people comes from the US but, for instance, I'm from Europe... Just curious... which % of the players do you guys think are from the US? 30%?...50%?... dunno....

48.5% from US
12.3% from Canada.
Meaning that over 3/5th of the users are from the same 3 time zones. Not even counting Central and South America.

You think of this Game 3988157? Well, he would've won the game anyway. If you read the log you see that he had another 55 guys to deploy but he missed because he ran out of time, and he only got 19 guys for the new round. He didn't run the time out on purpose.

Dude, it's completely legitimate. If you can do it, it's fine. Just like is you go down to the local gun store, but a semi-auto, a heap of ammo, then start slaughtering people around. If you can do it, then it must be legal. Sheesh

e_i_pi, how dare you slander the current "conqueror's" name like that! Are you suggesting that kingherpes is cheating in every one of his freestyle games, where he uses this fault in the game engine to his advantage? Preposterous! He has a lot of points, so he must be good enough to win without resorting to cheating. Just like that other conqueror, krusher.

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Must have made it into the user manual then.

Re: Is this a bug or a valid strategy?
In my opinion it isn't neccessarily one or the other, it can be used to get an unfair advantage in a one v one like you said (unfair=cheating) but if you have ever been in a 8 player classic risk game with no spoils you'll realise just how long nothing can happen for, in this circumstance i don't see anything wrong with using it to get the game moving again without dooming the player who gets the courage to end the stalemate!
Re: Is this a bug or a valid strategy?
you guys forgot to mention the obvious point:
FREESTYLE SUCKS!
I seriously have no idea why people play it. It's soooo lame and pointless.
