Sorry for the inactivity on this map guys … my compy crashed but now that I got it back (+Cs4 :D ) I've updated and totally revamped the graphics — check it out:
Image
UPDATED:
  • redid mountains (satisfied)
  • redid colors
  • redid port connections (still not satisfied…)
  • redid font
  • redid organization
N.B.
I DO know that the army numbers won't fit in some territories — that will be fixed just not now.
I'm very pleased with it. Please leave feedback!

It's a good update, but I really dislike the big fat black outline you have around the whole country. Also, you are going to want to straighten the names of Angju and Sunch'on they look strange when every other name is straight.

One more thing, it looks like there is a border between Goyang and Daegu. The one mountain there looks like a flat border between the mountains. If there isn't supposed to be one there, you should fix it.

Korean Peninsula - Love to have this!

Post by GlassMachine »

I would really like to see a map developed involving the Korean peninsula - post Korean War, north vs. south. I believe it should be divided up by provinces, much as in real life. Typical bonuses could be all of north/south, province clusters, DMZ, capitals and so on. A decent provincial map of both north and south can be found on Wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_of_Korea . I could develop the map myself, or if someone would like the task - go for it :) Thanks!!

Great map, but it would be nice to see a zone/bonus for the DMZ. Considering that you would technically have to go through it either way north or south, I was thinking a -1 for each round held - similar to the dust bowl map.

You just made me have a great idea. I'm still deciding whether to use it or not, but what I'd do is make one territory across the entire middle (where the DMZ is), have it start maybe 5 neu, and killer neutral every round.

Now see, thats what I'm talkin' about =) Throw that in there and it'll make the map. You should also consider adding major city spaces and bonuses.....just an idea though.

The redone graphics are great. I only have a few problems.
1. The Mountains look good but I can not tell what is blocked and what is not
2. Many of the bonuses including gray, blue, yellow red and brown
3. Make the two Islands bigger
4. THE FONTS ARE AWESOME!

Still is a great map

like…? I fixed Goyang-Seongnam, what other ones?
2. Many of the bonuses including gray, blue, yellow red and brown
2 orangish (far away + minimap makes it okay), 2 greenish (close, probably should fix), 2 reddish (far away + minimap), 1 brown, 1 blueish, 1 grayish. Maybe some amending there
3. Make the two Islands bigger
Nope, those are their sizes and that's what they're gonna stay as
4. THE FONTS ARE AWESOME!

Still is a great map
Thanks.

Alright, I have a v6.1 that includes a new gameplay feature: a DMZ that stretches across the entire peninsula lengthwise along the border between the bonuses of Kyonggi-Do and Hamyong-Namdo. It starts out neutral and loses -1 man every round. I know it would make conquering both North and South Korea harder (as well as adding more realism), but it does pose the question: is it too hard? If it was implemented I would most likely make another port connecting Changdo with either Sunch'on or Ullongdo, which would make holding the island a bit harder.

Feedback on this would be very much appreciated. I can post that draft when it is deemed necessary, but probably sooner.

the dmz as proposed does not make it too hard to cross the border. the reason is that the dmz, if u use killer neutrals (as u originally suggested), cannot be reinforced by piling armies on it. as soon as u take the dmz, u can immediately attack all of the frontier territories on either side. try it without the extra port and see how things develop: i think 1v1 games with the above dmz but no extra port will, by accident or design, have the potential to turn into north korea against south korea - an interesting concept!

Hmm, I like it! It would be a more standard kind of Arms Race! — DMZ like missiles, etc. So, taking out the second N-S connecting port, would you keep the killer neutral or the -1 (could make it -2) every round?

Thanks for your comment, ian!

I'm going to post a poll unless a CA (or anyone, really) brings it to my attention that one or more of the options would make the map unplayable.

I realy like this but I don't have much to suggest. Perhaps you could have the capitals attack each other that would make it easier to go from north to south. Also I'm not a fan of the minimap. it just seems squished. I like the killer nutural idea though. Also the rest of the map like china and the water are very dul, which I sort of like but I feas that you need to better fill that space.

Yep, I stretched it out a bit. It's still a bit squished, but the name for Hamyong-Namdo is no longer really hard to read, as well as some enlarged
I like the killer nutural idea though.
Will you vote in the poll?

I made the water a bit bluer, but yeah I agree. I think I will add the Korean for "Korean Peninsula" to the right like I had it before.

Thanks for the comment! v6 in the next post…

the long distance attack lines and the lines connecting the islands to land look really pixely even though they are also too fat, imo.

also, the poll is very strange... did you forget to remove the options from the poll about whether or not to have china and what backgrounds or something?

Will work on that

Hmm … I guess so … although the options weren't there when I put in the new 4 … :?
